  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Playing time picking up slightly

Trevino will start at catcher and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Orioles.

The Yankees continue to favor a timeshare behind the dish, but the playing time has tilted slightly in Trevino's direction of late. He'll make his third start in four games Monday while Kyle Higashioka resides on the bench.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Heads to bench

Kirk will sit Monday against the Mariners.

Kirk has picked things up at the plate after a slow start, slashing .289/.333/.447 over his last 11 games. He'll head to the bench Monday with Danny Jansen catching for Yusei Kikuchi and Zach Collins serving as the designated hitter.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Gets breather Monday

Jeffers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics.

Jeffers will take a seat after he started in five of the Twins' last six games, with four of those assignments coming at catcher. Gary Sanchez will replace Jeffers behind the plate Monday, while Kyle Garlick handles Sanchez's usual designated hitter duties.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Yankees' Ben Rortvedt: Could need surgery

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Rortvedt could require surgery to address his knee injury, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Rortvedt was placed on the injured list prior to Opening Day due to a right oblique strain, but his minor-league rehab assignment at Single-A Tampa was halted earlier this month on account of an unrelated knee issue. The Yankees haven't specified which of the knees is a concern for Rortvedt, though Boone noted that the young backstop has dealt with a knee issue in the past. Rortvedt is expected to undergo an MRI this week, which should provide more clarity on the extent of his knee injury while also aiding the Yankees' decision on whether or not he needs surgery.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Breaks skid with homer

Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday in the Mariners' 8-7 win over the Mets.

Raleigh's second home run of the season put an end to a 2-for-33 slump at the dish for the young backstop, who is now slashing .086/.200/.257 with a 37.5 percent strikeout rate. He still looks to be behind Luis Torrens on the depth chart at catcher.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Smacks third homer

Maldonado went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Sunday against the Nationals.

Maldonado took Patrick Corbin yard in the fifth inning to record his third homer of the season. He's now hit a home run twice in his last six games, though he had managed only two hits across his last 19 at-bats prior to Sunday's performance. Overall, Maldonado has maintained a subpar .113/.200/.238 line across 91 plate appearances.

  • Guardians' Austin Hedges: Out of Sunday's lineup

Hedges is not in Sunday's lineup against the Twins.

He is hitting .222 with one home run in eight games this month. Luke Maile will get the start at catcher and bat ninth.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Out of Sunday's lineup

Vazquez is not in Sunday's lineup against the Rangers.

He is hitting .250/.344/.357 with zero home runs and zero steals in nine games this month. Kevin Plawecki will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Returns to lineup Sunday

Barnhart is starting at catcher and batting ninth in Sunday's game against the Orioles.

After a day off Saturday, Barnhart will return for the series finale Sunday, with Eric Haase headed back to the bench. Barnhart is batting .271 this season, though he's yet to hit a home run and has only three RBI, so he hasn't been particularly productive with his hits.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Pops home run Saturday

Haase went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Orioles.

It's mostly been a struggle this season for Haase, who's batting just .170 with a .543 OPS, though he does have hits in his last two appearances, which is a small step in the right direction. Haase has two home runs this year after blasting 22 long balls in 2021, and he'll need to start seeing more playing time if he wants to approach that figure in 2022.
