  • James McCann C | ARI

Tigers' James McCann: Out of the lineup Wednesday

McCann is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Miami.

It seems like a routine day off for McCann with right-hander Tom Koehler taking the mound for the Marlins. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will step in behind the plate.

  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

Red Sox's Sandy Leon: Hits first homer of 2016

Leon went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Reds.

Leon has been a pleasant surprise offensively for the Red Sox since joining the team earlier this month. The 27-year-old catcher is now hitting .483 through his first 29 at-bats, driving home six runs and collecting five extra-base hits in the process.

  • Carlos Perez C | HOU

Angels' Carlos Perez: On the outs as starting catcher?

Perez will be behind the plate and bat eighth in the order Sunday against the Athletics, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Perez had missed each of the last four games, as manager Mike Scioscia elected to give Jett Bandy an opportunity to audition for the starting role. While Perez is back in the lineup, Sundays are usually days in which managers prefer to deploy their backup catchers, suggesting that Perez may settle back into a more limited role heading into the coming week. Perez is batting just .186 with three homers in 161 at-bats for the season, so even if he's officially dropped from a starting role, it's unlikely to hurt fantasy owners.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Out of Sunday's lineup

Vazquez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rangers, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Vazquez will hit the bench following a stretch of three starts in as many days at catcher. As expected, the backstop has handled the pitching staff well and has halted the running game by throwing out 7-of-18 would-be base stealers this season, but he's sitting on an ugly .212/.261/.298 line for the season. With that in mind, Vazquez could be at risk of a demotion once Ryan Hanigan (neck) returns from the DL, likely at some point this week.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Tigers' James McCann: Receives day off Sunday

McCann is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians.

This looks to be a normal respite for McCann, who had been behind the plate each of the previous three days. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will handle the catching duties and bat seventh in the order.

  • Astros' Alfredo Gonzalez: DFA'd by Astros

Gonzalez was designated for assignment by the Astros on Saturday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gonzalez is currently playing at Double-A Corpus Christi, and the move will take him off of the 40-man roster, clearing a spot for a first base prospect A.J. Reed, who will be promoted this weekend. The 23-year-old is hitting just .158 through 44 games, registering 40 strikeouts in 146 at-bats.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Back in lineup Saturday

Gomes (back) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Tigers.

As expected, Gomes will step back in behind the plate after having a cyst drained on his back and missing Friday's game. Gomes has seven homers on the year but just one since May 17, and his .184 average is the worst among primary catchers in the American League.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Out Friday, expected to return Saturday

Gomes was left out of the lineup Friday after having a cyst drained on his back, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports. He is expected to return to the lineup Saturday.

Friday marks Gomes' second straight day out of the lineup, but no injury had been reported until Friday afternoon. That said, Gomes isn't expected to miss much additional time as he'll be available to pinch hit Friday and he should be able to return to the lineup for Saturday's tilt.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Remains out of lineup

Gomes remains out of the lineup for Friday's game against Detroit.

Gomes is getting another game off as Chris Gimenez makes his second consecutive start behind the dish. Gomes is showing signs that he's breaking out of his slump with hits in each of his last four games and multi-hit performances his last two. Gomes will likely be back out there Saturday as he has yet to miss three consecutive games this season.

  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

Red Sox's Sandy Leon: Not in Thursday's lineup

Leon is out of the lineup Thursday against the Red Sox, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

Leon has made back-to-back starts behind the plate, going 1-for-5 at the plate with three walks and two runs scored. He'll give way to Christian Vazquez for the afternoon contest.
