Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Sanchez homered for the second straight game as part of his first three-hit performance in September, narrowly missing a second homer on a ball that hit near the top of the Green Monster. The 23-year-old has continued his assault on MLB pitching in September after posting a 1.239 OPS in August, smacking five home runs in 16 games this month. With his latest long ball, Sanchez became the second-fastest player to 16 career homers since 1900. The slugging backstop is slashing .327/.393/.698 in 159 at-bats this year.

Leon is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.

Leon will get the day off following four consecutive starts behind the plate. Bryan Holaday will man the backstop in his stead, making his first start at catcher since Sept. 5.

Although he struck out in half of his plate appearances, Sanchez also managed his fourth homer in the last nine games when he took David Price deep for a 436-foot shot over the Green Monster in the third, plating Brett Gardner. The 23-year-old has cooled off in September, but has now hit safely in four of his last five games.

McGuire, who was acquired from Pittsburgh on Aug. 1, hit .254/.335/.332 with 42 RBI and 34 runs over 92 games in the Double-A Eastern League.

The catcher was part of the deal that included pitcher Francisco Liriano. McGuire played in just 15 games for the Jays' Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, and his performance there (.226/.328/.264) was a disappointing drop-off from what he'd done in 77 games for Double-A Altoona (.259/.337/.346). Widely considered the top catching prospect in the Pirates' system, McGuire will likely get a good look in spring training next year with the Jays.

Indians manager Terry Francona announced Saturday that Gomes would be out for 6-8 weeks with a fractured wrist, which the catcher suffered in a rehab game Wednesday with Double-A Akron, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

As expected, this lengthy timetable essentially rules Gomes out for the season, a disappointing development for an Indians team that was banking on the backstop coming back after they weren't able to acquire Jonathan Lucroy at the trade deadline. Gomes had been out since mid-July with a separated shoulder, but was on the cusp of returning before sustaining the new injury while on a rehab assignment. With a Gomes return now off the table, the Tribe will continue to cast their lot with the catching tandem of Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez, neither of whom bring much to the table from an offensive standpoint.

Gomes (wrist, shoulder) has a non-displaced fracture of his right wrist.

This is a tough pill to swallow, as there was speculation that Gomes would be able to return from the disabled list Friday. The 29-year-old is scheduled to see a specialist Friday night to determine if and when he can return to action, but this seems like a roadblock that could keep him out to the end of the season. Gomes' timetable will likely become more clear following his visit to the specialist.

Gomes (hand, shoulder) will have an MRI on Thursday and it's unclear if he will be able to come off the DL on Friday, as was previously anticipated, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes reports. "He got hit in the hand pretty good," manager Terry Francona said.

He was hit in the right hand during a rehab game Wednesday, while making what was supposed to be one of his last rehab appearances before returning from a shoulder injury. Now, it seems like there's a chance his hand could be injured to the point that he will be forced to miss more time. More information should be available after Thursday's MRI.

Gomes (shoulder) was hit on the right hand during a rehab assignment with Double-A Akron on Wednesday, Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer reports.

Gomes was expected to rejoin the Indians on Friday but Hoynes indicates that his return could be pushed back pending the results of tests on his hand. The team should provide another update on his status when the results are returned.

The blast was Sanchez's 14th of the season, all of which have come since an August call-up. The young slugger is hitting .333/.411/.697 over that span, although he's cooled off a bit of late, hitting just .214 over his last 15 games.

Gomes (shoulder) is expected to come off the disabled list Friday, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports.

Gomes has been out since July 17 with a separated shoulder, but it appears that he's finally nearing his return. Gomes hasn't shown the ability to produce at the plate over the 71 games he's played this season, as he owns an awful .165/.198/.313 line and 26 percent strikeout rate.
