Cubs third baseman Mike Olt will not join the team for September roster expansion reports MLB.com, due to a hamstring injury that ended his season at Triple-A Iowa.

Olt has been sidelined since Aug. 19 and was not included with the team's callups in the first few days of the month. Olt hit .139/.222/.353 in 187 at-bats with the Cubs, but was hitting .302 in 106 at-bats prior to the injury at Triple-A. 

Pedro Alvarez (foot) and Travis Snider (hamstring) were both held out of the starting lineup for the Pirates against St. Louis on Monday. Alvarez has been out since Tuesday, while Snider's injury has cost him four games.

Pedro Alvarez (foot) and Travis Snider (hamstring) were once again held out of the Pirates' starting lineup Sunday against the Reds. Alvarez missed a fourth straight start, while Snider was sidelined a third straight game.

Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds, as he continues to be sidelined by a sprained left foot.

Alvarez has been out since Tuesday, as the injury has now cost him three games.

Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson had gone more than two weeks since his last home run before going deep in a 4-3 loss to the Angels Friday.

Donaldson tied the game with his sixth inning solo home run, a shot that eventually sent the game into extras. He went 2 for 3 overall in the game, while added a pair of walks in the loss.  

Donaldson has found his swing again in the month of August, though he has just three home runs in 85 games. He is still hitting .294/.419/.482 with 12 RBI and nine runs scored in the month.

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria was back at third base for the second game in a row Thursday against the Orioles, and he showed the forearm soreness from earlier in the week was behind him as he went deep in a 5-4 loss.

Longoria went 1 for 3 in the game while driving in to runs, one with his fourth-inning solo home run and then another with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. He now has 17 home runs and 76 RBI in 134 games, while hitting .255/.325/.399 in 521 at-bats. 

Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe has embarked on a late-August hot streak that has vaulted his slugging percentage back over .400.

Plouffe is 28 for 89 this month with three home runs, 20 RBI and 14 runs scored. His current 11-for-28 run has improved his stat line on the season to .251/.317/.417 with 10 home runs and a career-high 65 RBI.

Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is catching a break Wednesday in San Diego. Elian Herrera is set to man the position in his place.

Segura has broken from a 2-for-26 slide with six hits in his last 13 at-bats.
