  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Withheld from Sunday lineup

Rendon is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

The Nationals are giving many of their regular starters the day off Sunday, and Rendon is no exception. He'll give way to Adrian Sanchez at the hot corner. With no game scheduled for Monday, look for Rendon to return Tuesday against the Braves.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Remains out with illness Sunday

Donaldson (illness) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Donaldson will miss his third consecutive game as he continues to battle a bad cold. He shouldn't be sidelined much longer, but Darwin Barney will continue to fill his void at the hot corner in the meantime.

  • Twins' Eduardo Escobar: Ropes homer Saturday

Escobar went 1-for-3 with a solo homer Saturday during the Twins' 5-2 loss to the Royals.

Escobar hit a laser off Jake Junis to tie the game in the third inning. His blast marked his 18th of the season and fifth in September, during which he's now 12-for-36 with 13 RBI. Still, it's uncertain that he's done enough to justify anything more than part-time duty after Miguel Sano (shin) returns from the disabled list, likely in the coming days.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Joins homer party Saturday

Moncada went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a 13-1 win over the Giants on Saturday.

Moncada cleared the fences when he led off the seventh inning to register his fourth home run of the season. He's batting just .179 over 135 at-bats this year and has stolen only one base in that time, limiting his single-year fantasy contributions. The rebuilding Pale Hose will continue holding him in high esteem with a high spot in the order, giving him time to find a groove before the 2017 season wraps up.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Recalled from minors

Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Saturday, Jack Magruder of FanRagSports.com reports.

With Reno bounced from the Triple-A playoffs, Vargas will join the Diamondbacks' expanded September roster. Vargas can help out all around the infield, but it's difficult to imagine his bat will ever play well outside of the Pacific Coast League. He hit just .267/.316/.360 in two seasons at the Double-A level.

  • Kyle Farmer 3B | ATL

Dodgers' Kyle Farmer: Rejoins major-league team

Farmer was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

While Farmer put together a fine season in the minors, slashing .317/.375/.476 with 10 homers between Double-A and Triple-A, he will likely only see sporadic opportunities. A catcher by trade, Farmer also played a decent amount of third base this year, but it's hard to imagine he will play there much (if at all) with the big club.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Held out Saturday

Donaldson (illness) is not in the lineup against the Tigers on Saturday.

Donaldson will miss a second straight game due to the flu, while Darwin Barney draws the start at third. The 31-year-old should be considered day-to-day.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Two-day break works out

Devers reached base four times Friday, going 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in a 9-3 win over the Rays.

Devers, who had been held out of the starting lineup two consecutive days earlier in the week, is 5-for-7 with three runs scored and an RBI over two games since his break. The 20-year-old rookie had started 23 straight games, but his production started to drop off, prompting manager John Farrell to give Devers a break. Over the final 15 games of that 23-game stretch, Devers was hitting .179 with just two extra-base hits and one RBI. With Dustin Pedroia back from injury and Eduardo Nunez (back) around, Farrell can more effectively manage Devers' playing time.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Indians' Jose Ramirez: Out again Saturday

Ramirez (wrist) is out of Saturday's lineup against the Orioles.

He will miss his third game in a row with the wrist injury. Giovanny Urshela gets the rare start at second base while Yandy Diaz gets the nod at third base.
