Riley is dealing with some minor quadriceps tightness, but he could have played Thursday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

This explains why Riley is on the bench for the second day in a row. While the team says he was fine to play Thursday, that doesn't necessarily mean he will be back in action Friday. Adeiny Hechavarria is starting at third base in his stead.

Riley is not in Thursday's lineup against the Marlins.

Riley may be a little banged up, as this is his second day off in a row. He is hitting .238/.304/.357 with two home runs and 16 strikeouts in 84 at-bats this month. Adeiny Hechavarria is starting at third base and batting ninth.

Madrigal is not in Thursday's lineup against Cleveland.

He is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak and is batting .400 with one extra-base hit (a double) and zero steals on one attempt over that span. Yolmer Sanchez will handle the keystone and bat eighth.

Anderson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored during Wednesday's loss to the Braves.

Anderson mirrored Jesus Aguilar with a solo shot of his own as the two combined to hit back-to-back home runs off Max Fried to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead in the first. The 27-year-old would reach base twice more and cross home plate a second time on a Lewis Brinson single in the fourth. Anderson is having a solid season in which he's hitting .267/.355/.476 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI across 214 plate appearances.

Hayes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI and a run scored Wednesday as the Pirates beat the Cubs 2-1.

Hayes teamed up with Adam Frazier to hit back-to-back home runs off Kyle Hendricks in the first and it proved to be enough with the Pirates hanging on to a narrow 2-1 victory. The rookie third baseman is hitting an impressive .333/.403/.623 with four home runs, nine RBI and 12 runs scored in 20 games since being promoted Sept. 1.

Longoria went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a pair of walks and another run scored during Wednesday's win over the Rockies.

Longoria got the Giants on the board with a solo blast against Ryan Castellani in the fourth inning. The long ball was his seventh of the year, and he is batting .263 with 27 RBI.

Muncy went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Wednesday's loss to Oakland.

Muncy hit a two-run home run for the second night in a row, this time with two outs against Sean Manaea in the third inning. The long ball was the 12th of the year for Muncy, who is slashing just .193/.332/.401 overall.

Urshela indicated Wednesday that offseason surgery to remove a bone spur in his right elbow is a possibility, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.

Urshela recently returned from a stint on the injured list due to the bone spur, and he continues to wear a sleeve over his elbow to mitigate the pain. While the 28-year-old explained that the elbow "feels really good" at the moment, he wouldn't rule out the possibility of offseason surgery. "I don't know yet," he stated. "We're going to have to see how's the elbow at the end of the season." The issue doesn't seem to be affecting Urshela's play; since returning from the IL, he has notched at least one hit in every game, batting .438 (14-for-32).

Segura went 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI during Wednesday's 12-3 win over the Nationals.

The 30-year-old didn't have any extra-base hits Wednesday, but he came through with a two-run single with the bases loaded during the eighth inning. Segura is 11-for-27 in his last eight games and has a .272/.358/.439 slash line with seven homers, 28 runs and 25 RBI through 51 games this season.

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Brewers.

His 15th of the year blew the game open for Cincinnati and helped put the club back over .500. The new rules in MLB helped in this case, as Suarez got the best of a lefty reliever (Alex Claudio) he probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to face in past seasons. Suarez is now up to .205/.318/.486 with 15 homers, 36 RBI, 29 runs scored and two stolen bases.
