Brian Anderson RF | ATL
Marlins' Brian Anderson: Garners fifth straight start
Anderson will start in left field and bat fifth in Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
After making four straight starts at the hot corner and going a collective 3-for-14 with a home run, a double, two walks, four runs and two RBI over that span, Anderson will remain in the lineup for the fifth time in a row, this time filling in as an outfielder for the resting Jorge Soler. Anderson should have a clear path to steady playing time at the hot corner for the duration of Joey Wendle's (hamstring) stint on the 10-day injured list before likely transitioning back into a utility role.

Michael Busch 3B | CHC
Dodgers' Michael Busch: Rises to Triple-A
The Dodgers promoted Busch from Double-A Tulsa to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.
Busch spent the entire 2021 campaign at Tulsa, but he earned the call-up to Oklahoma City after raising his performance at the plate just over five weeks into his second tour of Double-A. Over 137 plate appearances at Tulsa, Busch submitted a 1.112 OPS -- a 242-point jump from his 2021 mark. Even though Busch is 24 years old and likely won't benefit much from further development time on the farm, his lack of a 40-man roster spot along with the Dodgers' impressive depth in both the infield and outfield could hurt his chances of receiving a late-season call-up to the majors.

Kyle Farmer 3B | ATL
Reds' Kyle Farmer: Back in action Tuesday
Farmer (general soreness) will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Tuesday's game in Cleveland.
After sitting out the final two games of the Reds' weekend series in Pittsburgh with the minor injury, Farmer is good to go coming out of Monday's team off day. He should settle back into an everyday role at shortstop, likely closing Alejo Lopez's window to take on extra work in the middle infield.

Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Pirates' Kevin Newman: Beginning rehab assignment Tuesday
Newman (groin) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
After incorporating running workouts into his regimen of baseball activities late last week, Newman showed enough progress in his recovery from the left groin strain to advance to the final stage of his rehab program. He'll most likely play in at least two games at Indianapolis before potentially rejoining the Pirates for the start of their homestand Friday. Once activated from the 10-day injured list, Newman should settle back in as the Pirates' everyday shortstop, leaving Rodolfo Castro and Diego Castillo to battle Josh VanMeter for playing time at second base.

J.D. Davis 1B | LAA
Mets' J.D. Davis: Back on bench for Game 1
Davis is out of the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.
Davis had started in three of the past four games, going 1-for-11 with a triple, two RBI and a run. He's expected to continue sharing the designated-hitter role with Dominic Smith, whose left-handedness may give him the edge in terms of playing time.

Edmundo Sosa 3B | PHI
Cardinals' Edmundo Sosa: Sits after two straight starts
Sosa is out of the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mets, William Ladson of MLB.com reports.
Sosa closed out the weekend with a second straight start at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in the Cardinals' 15-6 win over the Giants, but he'll give way to Brendan Donovan at shortstop for the afternoon game Tuesday. Given that Donovan bats from the left side, he could end up handling the larger side of a platoon at shortstop with the righty-hitting Sosa. Donovan has thus far done little to jeopardize his standing atop the depth chart, as he's provided a 1.015 OPS in his first 32 MLB plate appearances.

Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Remains hot Monday
McMahon went 2-for-5 with a home run and an additional RBI in a loss to the Giants on Monday.
McMahon homered to left field in the sixth inning to tie the score 4-4, and he produced another game-tying hit with a single in the seventh. The 27-year-old has produced three multi-hit performances over his past four games and has slugged two homers while driving in five runs over that span.

Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Draws seventh straight start
Wisdom will start at third base and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Pirates.
After opening the Cubs' weekend series in Arizona with six strikeouts in eight plate appearances in the first two games of the series, he broke out of his funk by going 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run in Sunday's 3-2 win. Wisdom still struck out twice during the contest, and his boom-or-bust profile is expected to continue to make him a sinkhole in the batting average category. That being said, Wisdom will stick in the lineup Monday for the seventh game in a row, and he appears to have a good chance at holding down a regular role in the infield over the ice-cold Jonathan Villar once the Cubs get one of Nick Madrigal (back) or Nico Hoerner (ankle) back from the injured list. Dating back to April 26, Villar is hitting .105 with a 38.5 percent strikeout rate.
-
Ildemaro Vargas 3B | ARI
Cubs' Ildemaro Vargas: Likely to move into utility role
Vargas is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
Vargas had started each of the Cubs' last three games at shortstop, going 2-for-9 with a triple, a walk, two RBI and a run during that stretch. He'll likely move into a utility role now that Andrelton Simmons (shoulder) -- who was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday -- is ready to make his first start of the season Monday.

Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI
Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Gets fifth straight start
Castro will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Cubs.
Castro has now drawn five consecutive starts, with four of them coming at shortstop. He appears to be ahead of Diego Castillo in the pecking order for work at the position, but both players will lose out on work at shortstop once Kevin Newman (groin) is ready to return from the 10-day injured list, likely at some point next week. When Newman is back, Castro may still have a pathway to playing time at the keystone over Josh VanMeter, but Castro will need to pick up the pace at the plate to ensure he sticks in an everyday role.
