Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa connected on his second home run of the spring in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Mets. Espinosa took starter Domingo Tapia deep in the second inning for his only hit in two at-bats. The power display raises Espinosa's line to .347/.372/.493 in 75 spring at-bats.

Logan Forsythe will miss at least six weeks due to plantar fasciitis, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Forsythe was in the driver's seat for the Padres' third base job after Chase Headley's injury opened the door. Alexi Amarista and Cody Ransom will split time at third base in his absence, with starting second baseman Jedd Gyorko potentially moving back to third base, his original position in the minors, for a few games.

Jose Altuve batting leadoff for the Astros doesn't have me as jazzed as I thought it would.

For starters, his splits last year were better when he batted second (.711 OPS as No. 1 vs. .776 OPS as No. 2). Sure, he stole bases at a more imperssive rate as the leadoff hitter, but Altuve hit double-digit home runs in his last two years in the minors, as he was developing some nice power to complement the steals. It's not like leadoff hitters don't hit for power, but Altuve batting second would have fostered that power a little more than having him hit first. 

It's nitpicking because he'll probably score more runs from the leadoff spot and will get the steals, but Altuve may surprise some people with his power potential if put in the right scenario. I'd still expect him to have a brush with 10-12 homers, but it would have been nice to see what he could have done from the No. 2 spot in the lineup. 

MLB.com reports Padres infielder Logan Forsythe was sent to San Diego on Wednesday to see a specialist about the plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

Forsythe saw his first Cactus League action since March 7 on Tuesday but left after three innings due to pain in his foot.

"He's really sore," manager Bud Black said.

Forsythe remains a strong candidate to begin the season on the disabled list.

The Padres announced Wednesday they optioned pitcher Tim Stauffer, pitcher Sean O'Sullivan, catcher Rene Rivera, outfielder Travis Buck and infielder Gregorio Petit to Triple-A Tucson.

Forsythe has been out since early March with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. With Chase Headley out, Forsythe should open the year as a starter at either second or third base.

Nationals second baseman Danny Espinona is doing his best this spring to make me believe his torn rotator cuff won't be a problem. Through 21 spring games, Espinosa is batting .317 (19 for 60) with three doubles and five RBI. He's also hitting .297 (11 for 37) against right-handed pitchers, which has been a problem for him in the past.

Yet, I'm still skeptical Espinosa will last over the long season. He said he feels stronger now than he has in the past and his numbers are proving it. But I still worried he might wear down as the season progresses. If Espinosa dealt with this injury over an entire season in the past, then we would have a better idea of how he might deal with the injury. But the fact we don't have that history concerns me.

Espinosa continues to be a late-round Fantasy option despite a productive spring.
