Mariners infielder Nick Franklin was removed from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox with a sore knee.

Franklin was replaced by Brendan Ryan in the seventh inning. He was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts before he was taken out. Franklin has been dealing with the injury for about a week. He's hitting .275/.329/.463 in 149 at-bats. 

White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham had an RBI sacrifice fly and a solo home run in his team's 8-5 loss to Detroit Wednesday. 

Beckham finished 1 for 3 with his second homer of the season. He is batting .340. 

Beckham, 26, has recorded hits in eight of his last nine games. He's gone 15 for 34 (.441) over that stretch with two homers and five RBI. 

Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus will serve as the team's designated hitter Tuesday against the Orioles.

Andrus will hit sixth against Zach Britton. Jurickson Profar will take his place at short, and hit second. Andrus is hitting .247/.303/.287 in 348 at-bats.

The Texas shortstop is batting .247 on the season. He's hit in five straight games, however, with five runs scored over that span. He is among the leaders in the American League with 18 steals.

Mariners rookie second baseman Nick Franklin continues to feel soreness in his right knee after fouling a bunt off his leg Friday in Cincinnati, MLB.com reports. That said, Franklin is playing through the issue and hit a first-inning homer Sunday in a Seattle win.

"Compared to yesterday, it's doing a lot better," Franklin said before batting practice on Monday prior to the series opener with the Red Sox. "I know it's not going to injure me more, therefore if I'm going to run, I might as well run it. As long as I know it's not going to injure me more, I'll play on it."

Franklin continues to be a catalyst for the Mariners. He's hit .302 with two homers and eight RBI over his last 13 games entering Monday. He has six homers and 18 RBI over his first 31 major league games.

Mariners shortstop Nick Franklin says he still feels the pain from his bruised right knee but will play through the pain, the Everett Herald reports. Franklin homered in his first at-bat Sunday, so he can apparently still produce despite the injury.

Franklin says he expects the pain to subside in the next few days, so hopefully he can avoid needing a rest day.

Franklin did receive an at-bat during Saturday's game, however. He struck out in his only plate appearance.

White Sox infielder Gordon Beckham made his first big-league appearance at shortstop Friday night against the Rays.

Beckham took over shortstop for Alexei Ramirez in the seventh inning. He singled in a run in the ninth inning and finished 2 for 4 with a run scored in an 8-3 defeat. He is hitting .328 with one homer and 10 RBI in 125 at-bats.
