Forsythe (back) went 1-for-5 with his 16th homer, three RBI and two runs in Sunday's win over the Rangers.

He'd been sidelined for four games this week with back spasms, but Forsythe seemed none the worse for wear Sunday. The Rays used him at DH on Sunday rather than having him play the field, but assuming he doesn't have any lingering issues, he should be back at second base soon enough.

Drury went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Sunday's loss to the Padres.

Drury drove in Arizona's lone run and was the team's only player with more than one hit. The 24-year-old is getting fairly regular playing time in the outfield, but recent call-up Mitch Haniger has been earning a look lately as well. Drury remains an option in daily leagues when he's in the lineup, but there are probably better choices in standard leagues.

Forsythe (back) will return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Rangers, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Forsythe has missed four straight games due to back spasms, but he'll return to the top of the order and serve as the DH Sunday afternoon. His presence indicates a stint on the DL won't be necessary, but the fact he's not playing second base suggests he may not yet be at 100 percent. Once Forsythe is able to take the field, which is expected to happen Monday, Tim Beckham will likely go back to his role as a reserve.

Giavotella was cut by the Angels on Saturday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The Angels, who began Saturday with the fourth-worst winning percentage in the league, are clearly planning for 2017. Giavotella is the third position player from the Opening Day roster to be let go, joining Daniel Nava and Craig Gentry. In a corresponding move, the Angels recalled infielder Kaleb Cowart from Triple-A Salt Lake. Manager Mike Scioscia said Cowart, Cliff Pennington and Gregario Petit will share the playing time at second base.

Forsythe (back) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Forsythe was set to take some swings Saturday afternoon before the Rays made a decision on his status. However, the Rays posted their lineup shortly after announcing Forsythe's plans to hit in the cage, so it was quickly apparent that he wasn't ready for game action. Tim Beckham will take over at second base in Forsythe's absence Saturday.

Torres, 19, is batting .247/.358/.370 with one home run, 10 RBI and one steal in 21 games at High-A Tampa since being traded to the Yankees.

Due to the presence of speedster Jorge Mateo, Torres has shifted from shortstop to second base. Torres, 19, was the prized prospect received from the Cubs in the Aroldis Chapman trade, and he remains one of the elite middle-infield prospects in the game.

Back spasms have kept Forsythe out of the lineup since Tuesday, but it looks as though the veteran has turned a corner and will at least get some swings in Saturday. There's still no guarantee he'll return to the lineup Saturday, but he does appear to be trending in the right direction. A further update on his status will be made available once Tampa Bay releases its lineup.

Altuve went 3-for-6 with a run-scoring single, two-run double and two-run homer - a 448-foot blast - in Friday's 15-8 victory over the Orioles.

The MVP candidate punished Orioles pitching throughout the game. Altuve is slashing .411/.442/.644 over 73 at-bats in August and has his average up to a whopping .365 on the season.

Marte hit a run-scoring double in a 7-6 win against the Brewers on Friday.

It was the first sign of life Marte has shown since coming off the DL on Aug. 9. In eight games since, he has three hits and three walks in 33 plate appearances. Marte played well early in the year, hitting .276 with 12 extra-base hits and five steals in his first 40 games through May 21, but he then went to the DL for the first time and struggled when he returned before hitting the DL a second time in mid-July. The Mariners sought an upgrade at shorstop at the trade deadline and could still make a move at the position if Marte doesn't turn it around.

Herrera (general soreness) has been used as a pinch hitter in three of the last four games for Triple-A Louisville.

It seems that he is healthy enough to hit, but not take the field, suggesting that the "general soreness" he is dealing with is lower-body soreness. Considering he has not been placed on the minor league DL and has been used regularly as a pinch hitter, he should return to the field in the near future. Herrera is a prime candidate to receive a September call-up, as he is generally seen as big league ready and he is on the 40-man roster. However, with Brandon Phillips still in the picture, playing time may be hard to come by for Herrera in September.
