  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Doubles twice in win

Chavis started at second base and went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored in Thursday's 8-1 win over Oakland.

The noticeably leaner Chavis took advantage of a sinking liner to center field that eluded Ramon Laureano and stretched it out for a double to lead off the bottom of the first inning. That ignited a three-run inning, as Boston's bats came alive for the first time in four games. Chavis has started three straight, including two at first base for a slumping Bobby Dalbec, and could be making a push to stay in Boston even after the roster gets healthier. Dalbec rose to the challenge Thursday, going 2-for-4 with a home run.

  • Amed Rosario 3B | NYY

Indians' Amed Rosario: Second steal in win

Rosario went 1-for-4 with a run, stolen base and strikeout as Cleveland won Thursday's match with Seattle, 4-2.

The steal was Rosario's second of the year but proved meaningless in non-fantasy terms as Jose Ramirez homered to bring Rosario home later in the at-bat. It's encouraging to see Rosario more active on the bases after zero steals last season, though he'll need to raise his average (.222) or on base percentage (.287) above their current mediocre marks to be considered a viable option.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Increasing work

Arroyo (hand) took batting practice on the field before Thursday's game, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Arroyo is ramping up activity since being placed on the injured list Sunday. His next step could a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester over the weekend, though the team has yet to finalize any plans. Arroyo is expected to be activated from the injured list when first eligible for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Set for rehab assignment

Hernandez (hamstring) will be on a rehab assignment this weekend with Triple-A Worcester, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Hernandez is set to serve as the designated hitter on Saturday and play in center field on Sunday. He is first eligible to return from the injured list Tuesday, and if all goes well on his rehab assignment it appears his activation at that time is realistic.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Swats double in win

Biggio went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, a run, two walks and a strikeout in Thursday's 8-4 win over Atlanta.

Biggio had gone hitless in his last nine at-bats, but he reached base four times in Thursday's victory. The 26-year-old is now hitting .210 with three home runs, 13 runs and 10 RBI this season.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Indians' Andres Gimenez: Not starting Thursday

Gimenez isn't starting Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Gimenez has gone 1-for-8 with two runs, an RBI, a stolen base and two strikeouts in the last three games. Amed Rosario will start at shortstop and bat second.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Tests positive for coronavirus

The Yankees announced Thursday that Torres will be placed on the COVID-19 injured list after he tested positive for the coronavirus, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Torres becomes the eighth member of the Yankees' traveling party and only player known to have tested positive for the coronavirus. The diagnosis is especially troubling for Torres, given that he was fully vaccinated and had previously contracted the virus in December. New York recalled Miguel Andujar from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as a replacement on the active roster for Torres, who will need to complete a quarantine period and test negative before he's cleared to return from the IL.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Picks up third straight start

Chavis will start at second base and bat leadoff Thursday against the Athletics, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Chavis will be filling in for Marwin Gonzalez in the series finale, but it's Bobby Dalbec who likely has to worry about Chavis stealing his spot in the everyday lineup. Dalbec was benched for the past two games in favor of Chavis, who went 2-for-7 with three strikeouts while stepping in at first base.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Will remain out Thursday

Torres won't play in Thursday's game against the Rays out of "an abundance of caution" while the MLB and MLBPA joint committee continue to review the results of his COVID-19 tests, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

The Yankees already have seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 among their coaching and support staff, but no players have been added to the COVID-19 injured list at this point. New York is hopeful to gain clarity on Torres' situation by the end of the day, which could allow the shortstop to return to action Friday in Baltimore if he's confirmed to have tested negative.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Slams leadoff homer

Altuve went 1-for-5 with a leadoff home run in the Astros' 9-1 win Wednesday over the Angels.

Altuve cranked the first pitch of the game from Andrew Heaney off the foul post for his fourth home run. He has a current eight-game hitting streak after a rough stretch in the final week of April. The 31-year old has three home runs, five RBI and six runs during his streak. He is slashing .286/.325/.438 in 123 plate appearances.
