Mets' Pete Alonso: Swats 31st homer

Alonso went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 3-1 win over Colorado.

Alonso provided all the offense Jacob deGrom and a trio of relievers needed to pull out a win with his two-run blast to left field in the third inning. The homer was his 31st of the season, tied for fourth most in the majors. Alonso is also tied for third in the big leagues with 104 RBI on the campaign.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Slugs pair of homers

Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI on Thursday against the Cubs.

Goldschmidt powered the Cardinals to victory Thursday by slugging his 32nd and 33rd homers of the season. He has had a particularly excellent August, delivering nine homers, 27 RBI and 21 runs scored across 21 games. For the season, he owns a .339/.420/.637 line across 516 plate appearances.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Diagnosed with right calf bruise

France was diagnosed with a right calf bruise after exiting Thursday's game against the Guardians.

France appeared to sustain his injury while stretching to make the final out at first base in the top of the second inning. Whether he's forced to miss additional time remains to be seen, but Carlos Santana, Dylan Moore and Jake Lamb are candidates to step in at first base if France is sidelined.

Mariners' Ty France: Exits with apparent injury

France was removed from Thursday's game against the Guardians due to an apparent injury, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

France appeared to be in pain after stretching to catch the final out in the top of the second inning, and he was replaced at first base to begin the third frame. Prior to his departure, he went hitless in his lone at-bat. The nature and severity of his injury aren't yet known.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Sitting Thursday

Montero is not in the starting lineup Thursday against the Mets.

Montero will get a breather after he went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers. Charlie Blackmon will shift to designated hitter while Garrett Hampson enters the lineup in center field and bats ninth in the series opener.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Reds' Donovan Solano: Piling up hits

Solano went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Phillies.

Solano has now turned in multi-hit performances in four of his last five starts and is slashing .368/.421/.441 through 18 games in August. The 34-year-old doesn't bring much power or speed to the table, but his excellent bat-to-ball skills should make him a strong source of batting average now that he's locked into an everyday role with Cincinnati. He'll start at first base and bat cleanup in Thursday's series finale in Philadelphia.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

    Phillies' Alec Bohm: Sitting Thursday

Bohm is not in the starting lineup Thursday versus the Reds.

Bohm will take a seat after he went 5-for-11 with two RBI and two runs scored in the first three games of the series. Edmundo Sosa will take over at third base and bat ninth in the series finale.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ATL

Mariners' Carlos Santana: Benefiting from Haggerty's absence

Santana will serve as the Mariners' designated hitter and No. 6 batter in Thursday's game against the Guardians.

Santana will pick up his fourth consecutive start after going 3-for-11 with a double and a walk over the past three contests, but his run of steady playing time will likely come to an end as soon as Sam Haggerty (shoulder) is ready to rejoin the lineup. Haggerty was able to take some swings with a fungo bat Tuesday and has been deployed off the bench twice since suffering the shoulder injury, so the Mariners appear to be optimistic that he'll avoid a stint on the 10-day injured list.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Three RBI in win

Hoskins went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Wednesday's win over Cincinnati.

Hoskins tallied his RBI by grounding into a force out, working a walk with the bases loaded and hitting a run-scoring single. The 29-year-old has been in a slump with a .143/.250.179 slash line over 28 at-bats in his last seven games. The first baseman crushes lefties with a 1.013 OPS in 112 at-bats compared to a .748 OPS in 346 at-bats facing righties.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Makes first career start at SS

Dalbec started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays.

The Red Sox were missing two middle infielders due to injury -- Xander Bogaerts (back) and Christian Arroyo (leg) -- so manager Alex Cora had to get creative. Enrique Hernandez moved from center field to second base, where he has 218 games of experience during his career, and Dalbec made his first-ever start at shortstop. He's played a four innings there in the majors and three while in the minors, but Cora pointed out to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com that he's also shifted to that spot while playing third base. Dalbec is unlikely a long-term solution if Bogaerts is forced to miss significant time.
