  • Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Idle for series finale

Horwitz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

For the second time in the series, Horwitz will hit the bench while the Red Sox send another lefty to the bump in Patrick Sandoval. Rafael Flores will check in for Horwitz at first base and bat fifth.

  • Charles McAdoo 1B | TOR

Blue Jays' Charles McAdoo: Filling in for Guerrero at first base

McAdoo will start at first base and bat second in Sunday's game against the Yankees.

McAdoo will remain in the lineup for the sixth time in seven games, covering first base for the second day in a row after splitting time between third base and left field in his prior four starts. With the Blue Jays placing Vladimir Guerrero (concussion) on the 7-day injured list Saturday, McAdoo could have an extended runway at first base, though Kazuma Okamoto could also move across the diamond to help fill in. Since being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, McAdoo has gone 5-for-16 with a home run, a double, three walks and four RBI.

  • Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Sitting out Sunday

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh.

Following a 0-for-3 performance with a walk and two strikeouts in Saturday's 4-0 win, Contreras will ride the pine for the series finale. Nick Sogard will move over to first base in place of Contreras, who had started in each of the previous eight contests.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Fills in for injured teammate

Vargas started at second base Saturday in place of the injured Ketel Marte (knee) and went 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a 10-3 win over Atlanta.

Vargas finsihed off the scoring with a three-run shot in the top of the ninth inning. He replaced Marte in Friday's game, when the latter was removed in the second inning, and filled in for him again a day later. Marte was considered a game-time decision Saturday, so this may not lead to a sizeable opportunity for Vargas. The homer was his eighth of the season, a career high, but his first since May 12.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Knocks in lone run in win

Schanuel went 3-for-3 with one RBI in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Angels.

Schanuel had an RBI single in the eighth inning to provide the lone run of the game. The first baseman has gone 13-for-47 (.277) over 14 contests in August, providing steady hitting in the heart of the order. He's batting .279 with a .748 OPS, seven home runs, 47 RBI, 41 runs scored, 22 doubles and one stolen base over 104 contests this year.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Orioles' Pete Alonso: Another multi-hit effort Saturday

Alonso went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Rays.

Alonso gave the Orioles the lead with a solo blast in the fifth inning, and he's now recorded multiple hits in five of his past six contests. It's been a stellar August for the 31-year-old, who owns a 1.059 OPS with four homers and nine RBI over 13 games this month. On the year, he's slashing .264/.356/.487 with 27 long balls, 78 RBI, 75 runs scored and five steals across 534 plate appearances.

  • Alec Burleson 1B | STL

Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Swats homer No. 20

Burleson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Cubs.

The 27-year-old slugger capped the scoring for the Cardinals with a solo shot off Collin Rea in the eighth inning. While his performance was overshadowed by Joshua Baez's history-making three-homer day in his MLB debut, Burleson achieved a milestone of his own, becoming the first player in the majors this season with 30 doubles and 20 homers. Over 13 games in August, Burleson is batting .311 (14-for-45) with five long balls, 11 runs and 15 RBI.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Lands on concussion IL

The Blue Jays placed Guerrero on the 7-day concussion IL on Saturday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

Guerrero suffered the concussion after colliding with George Lombard while sliding into third base during Friday's contest. He'll now be forced to sit out until at least Aug. 22, leaving Charles McAdoo and Kazuma Okamoto as the remaining candidates to start at first base for the Blue Jays. Daz Cameron will come up from Triple-A in a corresponding move to round out Toronto's bench depth.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Idle Saturday

Guerrero (head) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Guerrero entered concussion protocol after coming out of Friday's contest following a head-first slide into George Lombard's knee. It remains unknown whether Guerrero will require a trip to the 7-day concussion IL, but he'll sit for at least one game. Charles McAdoo will fill in at first base and bat ninth.

  • Giants' Rafael Devers: Logs double in loss

Devers went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Rockies.

After going 0-for-8 in his previous three games, Devers hit an RBI double in the ninth inning, driving in San Francisco's final run. The veteran infielder hasn't been very productive this month, batting .220 with five runs scored, four RBI and two home runs in 48 plate appearances. Overall, he's slashing .245/.320/.467 with 65 RBI, 62 runs scored and 24 long balls across 515 plate appearances this season.
