Smith (foot) hopes to be ready to be activated when first eligible Sept. 25, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

He took a big step in his recovery Wednesday running and hitting off a tee for the first time since suffering a stress fracture in his left foot in July. It will be all about whether Smith can work his way into game shape over the next two weeks. At best, he would be available for the final five games of the regular season.

Goldschmidt is not in Thursday's lineup against the Rockies.

He is hitting .281/.452/.469 with zero home runs, 10 walks and six strikeouts in 10 games this month. Rangel Ravelo will start at first base and hit sixth.

Flores is not in Thursday's lineup against the Mets.

Flores has started six of the last eight games, with five of those starts coming against righties. He is hitting .250 with one home run in 24 at-bats over that stretch. Jake Lamb draws the start at third base against righty Marcus Stroman while Eduardo Escobar slides over to the keystone.

Calhoun went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to Cleveland on Wednesday.

Calhoun brought the Angels to within a run with a 411-foot shot to center field in the eighth inning, but it proved to be the final tally of the game for either team. The round tripper was Calhoun's first since Aug. 23 and was only his third hit in 30 at-bats in September. The 31-year-old is slashing .231/.325/.467 with 29 homers and 68 RBI in 570 plate appearances this season.

Abreu went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to Kansas City.

The AL leader in RBI padded his lead Wednesday with the two RBI giving Abreu 114 for the season. He's driven in 25 runs over the last 21 games, never going more than two games without an RBI.

Guerrero went 1-for-3 with three RBI on Wednesday against the the Red Sox.

Despite not recording an extra-base hit, Guerrero turned in a productive outing by roping a two-run single to left field in the fifth inning. It was his first multi-RBI performance since Aug. 16, though Guerrero has not gone yard since Aug. 22. Even given that lack of productivity, he's still managed a .274/.347/.452 line across 458 plate appearances in his age-20 season.

Naylor is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Cubs.

He will miss his second game in a row. Naylor is hitting .227 with zero home runs, five strikeouts and four walks in nine games this month. Wil Myers starts in right field while hitting cleanup.

Hiura (hamstring) won't play in Wednesday's game and won't return to the lineup until Monday at the earliest, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

It sounds like he could get some pinch-hit opportunities in this weekend's series in St. Louis but won't be able to take the field until the upcoming homestand. With Christian Yelich (fractured kneecap) done for the season, the Brewers will lean on Hiura to help carry the offense as they look to win the second wild-card spot in the National League.

The Astros are targeting Friday's game against the Royals for Gurriel's (hamstring) return to the lineup, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

He hasn't played since leaving Friday's game with left hamstring discomfort. Aledmys Diaz is starting at first base Wednesday.

Court was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Court was designated for assignment Tuesday and cleared waivers quickly, hardly a surprise for a 31-year-old with just 12 big-league games under his belt. He'll remain as organizational depth for the Mariners.
