  • Blaine Crim 1B | COL

Rangers' Blaine Crim: Hitless in debut

Crim started at first base, batted eighth and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 13-1 loss to Seattle.

Crim made his MLB debut after having his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock. After Texas optioned Jake Burger to the minors, there's an opportunity for someone to grab the first base job. Crim will be part of the mix. The 27-year-old has played 308 games at Round Rock since 2022 and is well past the point of being considered a prospect.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | CHC

Guardians' Carlos Santana: Launches solo homer Friday

Santana went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI single in Friday's 5-3 loss to Toronto.

Santana put the Guardians on the board in the second inning on a solo home run off Chris Bassitt, and the former tied things up at 3-3 in the eighth after his single to right field brought Daniel Schneemann home. Santana is up to three home runs on the season, though his last one before Friday was April 9 against the White Sox. He's slashing .229/.306/.330 with two stolen bases, 13 runs scored and nine RBI in 124 plate appearances this season.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | TEX

Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: Racks up three hits in win

Tellez went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 13-1 win over the Rangers.

Since a three-game stretch with three homers and seven RBI from April 18-20 in Toronto, Tellez had gone just 2-for-12 across his last eight games. The first baseman broke out of that funk with a trio of singles Friday, making him one of six Mariners to log multiple hits in this blowout win. He's batting .194 with a .680 OPS, four homers, 13 RBI, nine runs scored and no stolen bases over 69 plate appearances this season. Tellez is in a strong-side platoon role at first base, though Donovan Solano has poached a few at-bats versus righties.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Facing extended absence

Manager Alex Cora said Casas suffered a significant knee injury during Friday's game against the Twins, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Casas stepped on first base awkwardly while trying to beat out a throw in the second inning. He left the field on a stretcher and was transported to a hospital. The Red Sox will know more about the extent of his injury Saturday, but it doesn't seem like the 25-year-old will be back in the lineup anytime soon. Romy Gonzalez will likely take over as Boston's primary first baseman going forward.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Smacks another home run

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 3-0 win over the Rays.

Goldschmidt was the man responsible for all of Friday's scoring, belting a three-run shot off Mason Montgomery in the fifth inning. Goldschmidt is up to three home runs on the season, two of which have come in back-to-back games. He's recorded at least one hit in five of his last six games, going 8-for-23 with six runs scored and seven RBI over that span.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Stretchered off field

Casas (leg) was removed from Friday's game against the Twins in the second inning with an apparent leg injury, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Casas stepped awkwardly on top of first base while trying to beat out a throw and fell hard to the ground. He was down for several minutes before being stretchered off the field, and an update from the Red Sox should be provided after he undergoes further testing. Romy Gonzalez pinch ran for Casas and is in the game at first base for the top of the third inning.

  • Niko Kavadas 1B | LAA

Angels' Niko Kavadas: Recalled from Salt Lake

The Angels recalled Kavadas from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

Kavadas has gotten off to a strong start in the minors, slashing .248/.376/.450 with five homers, 20 RBI and 16 runs scored through 133 plate appearances. He'll return to the Angels to fill the void left by Mike Trout's (knee) move to the injured list, though the 26-year-old is likely to come off the bench most of the time while with the big club.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Rangers' Jake Burger: Demotion to minors now official

The Rangers optioned Burger to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Burger has hit just .190 with a 29.6 percent strikeout rate across his first 108 plate appearances this season, so the Rangers have elected to send him to Round Rock for a while to get his swing in order. The expectation is that he will eventually regain his starting job at first base with the big club, but there's no timeline for when that might happen. For now, the Rangers could use a combination of Blaine Crim, Josh Smith, Joc Pederson and Dustin Harris at first base.

  • Blaine Crim 1B | COL

Rangers' Blaine Crim: Officially added to roster

The Rangers selected Crim's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Crim has slashed .313/.365/.565 with seven home runs this season at Round Rock, although it's his third year there and he will turn 28 next month. He could see regular reps at first base while Jake Burger tries to get his swing straightened out at Round Rock.

  • Ty France 1B | TOR

Twins' Ty France: Stays hot Thursday

France went 3-for-5 with a double in Thursday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Guardians.

France has been red hot at the plate recently, going 12-for-25 (.480) with four doubles and a home run during his current six-game hitting streak. The 30-year-old first baseman is now slashing .281/.352/.421 to start the year with three homers, 18 RBI and 14 runs scored across 128 plate appearances.
