  • Peralta allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three over 3.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Tuesday. Peralta's first outing for the Rays didn't go well, though this start came at Coors Field. The right-hander was acquired from the Mets on Sunday. Peralta has allowed at least five runs in four of his last eight outings, so there's a glaring consistency issue he'll need to work through with his new team. He's at a 5.37 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 116:49 K:BB through 117.1 innings over 23 starts this season. Peralta's next outing is expected to be in another hitter-friendly venue in Sacramento against the Athletics.

  • Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Peralta will start Tuesday's game against the Rockies at Coors Field, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports. Acquired from the Mets on Sunday in a four-player deal, Peralta will be called upon to make his Rays debut two days later, stepping into the rotation spot that previously belonged to the injured Shane McClanahan (back). Though Peralta had labored to a 4.99 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 113:48 K:BB in 113.2 innings with New York, the Rays are optimistic that their coaching staff can coax better results from the two-time All-Star. A strong finish to the campaign could set up the 30-year-old righty for a lucrative payday this offseason, when he'll hit free agency for the first time in his career.

  • The Rays acquired Peralta from the Mets on Sunday in exchange for outfielder Aidan Smith, second baseman Emilien Pitre and right-hander Gary Gill Hill, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Peralta was pulled from his scheduled start Friday versus Miami in anticipation of Monday's trade deadline, and the Mets found a willing suitor for his services in the Rays, who pivoted to the right-hander after falling short in their pursuit of Tarik Skubal. After being acquired from the Brewers during the offseason, Peralta had a rough time in Queens with a 4.99 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 113:48 K:BB in 113.2 innings over 22 starts. Tampa Bay represents a good landing spot for the 30-year-old, given the Rays' track record of getting the best out of their pitchers.

  • The Mets have scratched Peralta from Friday's scheduled start versus the Marlins as trade interest in the hurler heats up, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. A trade does not appear imminent, but Peralta is a virtual lock to be dealt before Monday's deadline and the Mets don't want to risk him getting injured. The club has not yet revealed who will start Friday in Peralta's place. The Cubs, Rays, Phillies, Brewers and Atlanta are among the teams known to have trade interest in Peralta, who is a pending free agent.

  • Peralta (5-9) took the loss against Milwaukee on Monday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings. Peralta fell behind quickly, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in the first inning. He gave up three more runs across his next two frames and then watched from the dugout as two additional runs were charged to him following his departure in the sixth. The veteran righty did manage to complete five innings for the first time in his past four starts, but that's small consolation given that the seven earned runs were the second-most he's given up in an outing this season. It's been a rough first campaign in New York for Peralta, as his 5.01 ERA is fourth-worst among qualified big-league hurlers.
