Top Broncos News

  • Broncos' Troy Franklin: Pair of grabs in Saturday's victory

Franklin secured both targets for five yards in the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

Franklin's unremarkable finish to preseason is largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of his 2025 outlook, as the Oregon product is set to open the season as the No. 3 receiver. Franklin recorded a pair of touchdown catches among his four grabs in last Saturday's preseason win over the Cardinals, which, when coupled with what was by all accounts an impressive training camp, leaves him poised for a fast start to his second campaign.

  • Broncos' Pat Bryant: Two grabs in preseason win

Bryant brought in two of five targets for 19 yards in the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

The rookie third-round pick put the finishing touches on a productive first preseason as a pro by recording multiple receptions for the third time in as many exhibitions. Bryant's outlook brightened further with the trade of Devaughn Vele to the Saints earlier in the week, as he now lines up to open the 2025 campaign as the likely No. 4 receiver.

  • Broncos' Evan Engram: Quiet in preseason finale

Engram failed to bring in his only target in the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

Engram was naturally part of the first-team offense over the first three drives, but he closed out his preseason in quiet fashion after making a splash with a 58-yard catch against the Cardinals last Saturday. The veteran tight end is teed up for a significant role in the Broncos' Bo Nix-led offense, beginning with their Week 1 home matchup against the Titans.

  • Broncos' RJ Harvey: Four touches in preseason start

Harvey started the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon and rushed three times for four yards while securing his only target for one yard.

Harvey was the first running back to record a carry, and he was in on Denver's first three possessions overall with the rest of the first-team offense. The rookie second-round pick got some solid work in during preseason, finishing Denver's three-game exhibition slate with a 13-47 rushing line and three receptions for seven yards on four targets. Harvey heads into his first NFL season set to operate in tandem with veteran J.K. Dobbins atop the Broncos' running back depth chart.

  • Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Impressive to close preseason

Sutton secured four of seven targets for 83 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

Sutton tied for the team lead in receptions and set the pace in receiving yards and targets on the afternoon as well. The first-team offense was supposed only be in on 8-10 plays according to head coach Sean Payton's statements earlier in the week, but a lackluster opening drive likely drove Payton to keep the first unit out there for two additional possessions. Sutton put the extra opportunity to good use, rounding out his afternoon with a 19-yard scoring grab to close out the first unit's third and final drive. Sutton heads into the 2025 season as the clear-cut No. 1 receiver in Denver's Bo Nix-led offense.

  • Broncos' Tyler Badie: Sees time with first team Saturday

Badie rushed four times for 14 yards and brought in four of five targets for 31 yards in the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon. He also returned two kickoffs for 72 yards.

Badie logged his first touch on Denver's second possession with 10:25 remaining, sharing time with RJ Harvey on that drive. Badie, a third-year back, would go on to particularly make an impact as both a receiver and returner, and it remains to be seen if his in-game slotting Saturday is indicative of a potential move up the depth chart to open the campaign. Badie has logged four regular-season appearances with the Broncos over the last two campaigns, and his 33.0-yard average on three kickoff returns this preseason may serve to give him a path to the 53-man roster.

  • Broncos' Audric Estime: Strong showing to wrap up preseason

Estime rushed eight times for 45 yards and a touchdown and brought in one of two targets for eight yards in the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

The second-year back led the Broncos in rush attempts and rushing yards while also recording a five-yard TD run with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Estime's primary competition for the No. 3 running back job, Jaleel McLaughlin, did not log a carry or target, which could very well mean he's locked into his spot on the depth chart. However, Estime did enter the game after both rookie RJ Harvey and Tyler Badie, with the latter's in-game slotting certainly noteworthy. Nevertheless, assuming Estime makes it through final cuts, he could work his way into some reps across all three downs as the season unfolds, and Saturday's performance certainly did nothing to harm his chances of such.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: Impressive in extended showing

Nix completed 10 of 14 passes for 110 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions during the Broncos' 28-19 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Sean Payton had announced earlier in the week that the plan was to have Nix and the offensive starters in for just 8-10 plays, but the second-year quarterback and his teammates ended up on the field for three drives after the first possession went for just three plays and lost two yards. Nix was better on an 11-play, 39-yard march that culminated in a field goal during Denver's second possession, and he wrapped up his afternoon with a 77-yard drive in which he hit No. 1 receiver Courtland Sutton for 43 and 19 yards, the latter completion a touchdown via the left side of the field. Nix saw action in two preseason games overall during which he put up 25 attempts, seemingly affording him enough work to prepare for a potential breakout second season that begins with a Week 1 home matchup against the Titans on Sept. 7.

  • Broncos' Nate Adkins: Set to avoid IR

Adkins (ankle) won't go on injured reserve to start the 2025 season, Luca Evans of The Denver Post reports.

Adkins has been working his way back from an ankle sprain, but head coach Sean Payton expects him to be able to return to action by Week 3. Payton said Thursday that the tight end is "too good a football player for us," thus stressing the importance of having him available as soon as possible.

  • Broncos' Bo Nix: To play 8-10 snaps Saturday

Broncos coach Sean Payton said Thursday that Nix and the starters will play 8-10 snaps in Saturday's preseason finale against the Saints, Luca Evans of The Denver Post reports.

Payton is simply confirming the plan he'd previously set out for Denver's preseason finale. Nix played early into the second quarter of the Broncos' preseason opener then sat out the team's second exhibition matchup. He'll get a chance to play one or two drives Saturday with a wide receiver corps that saw Devaughn Vele depart for New Orleans via trade Wednesday, leading to Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant and Trent Sherfield climbing the depth chart.

  • Broncos' Pat Bryant: Climbs up depth chart

Bryant is one of the main beneficiaries of Denver trading wide receiver Devaughn Vele to New Orleans on Wednesday, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.

The Broncos' willingness to move on from Vele, who tallied 41 catches for 475 receiving yards and three scores as a rookie in 2024 despite playing just 13 regular-season games, seems a clear endorsement of Bryant. The rookie third-round pick impressed with four catches for 70 yards (on five targets) during last Saturday's preseason win over the Cardinals, and he'll have a final chance to impress in exhibition action this Saturday, Aug. 23, versus the Saints. Second-year pro Troy Franklin and veteran journeyman Trent Sherfield could both also be in line for increased opportunities in the wake of Vele's departure.

  • Broncos' Nik Bonitto: Back at practice

Bonitto (foot) participated in Tuesday's training camp practice, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.

Bonitto had a bone spur removed from his foot last week, ultimately forcing him to miss last week's practices and be sidelined for Denver's second preseason game against the Cardinals. Tuesday's practice marked his first time back with the team following the procedure. The 25-year-old is currently in negotiations with the Broncos for a contract extension. According to Kosmider, Bonitto said Tuesday there "has been good communication on both sides." Following up a season in which he posted a career high 13.5 sacks, the veteran linebacker should continue to be a key piece of a formidable defense in 2025.

  • Broncos' Nick Gargiulo: Dealing with ACL injury

Head coach Sean Payton announced Tuesday that it was an ACL injury that landed Gargiulo on injured reserve, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.

Gargiulo was carted off the field during Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals with what's now being described as an ACL injury. He was competing for a spot as a backup guard on the team and will now shift his focus to getting healthy for next season.
