Top Blue Jackets News

  • Blue Jackets' Miles Wood: Finds twine Sunday

Wood scored a goal and dished out a hit in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Islanders.

Wood tallied the lone goal of the second period to level the score at one apiece. With the tally, Wood has four goals and 12 shots on net across seven appearances this season. He has been a strong complementary goal scorer for his linemates, Boone Jenner and Adam Fantilli, who have both excelled at sharing the puck this season. Wood has been highly efficient as well, shooting 33.3 percent, which ranks seventh among all skaters with four goals or more this season. He could have sneaky value in deeper leagues while he continues to strive for a double-digit goal total for the first time since the 2022-23 season.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Faces high volume in loss

Merzlikins made 36 of 39 saves in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Islanders.

After conceding just one goal in the first 58 minutes of regulation, Merzlikins looked as if he was in line for his fourth consecutive win. However, the Islanders would grab two goals in the final two minutes of regulation to pull the rug out from under Columbus, stealing a 3-2 win. With the loss, the 31-year-old netminder has a 4-2-0 record with a 2.98 GAA and a .917 save percentage across six appearances. Both Merzlikins and fellow goalie Jet Greaves have displayed reasons to be fantasy relevant despite the two evenly splitting starts through the Blue Jackets' first 12 games. In the case of Merzlikins, he has made the largest number of saves (198) among all netminders with six games or less. That fact, combined with the Blue Jackets winning two-thirds of their matchups when he starts, make him a solid streaming option in most fantasy formats. If the Blue Jackets continue to alternate starts, Merzlikins is projected to make his next start Saturday against the Canucks.

  • Blue Jackets' Charlie Elick: Big game Sunday

Elick scored a goal on two shots and added two assists in WHL Tri-City's 4-3 overtime win over Medicine Hat on Sunday.

Elick entered Sunday on a five-game point drought. The 19-year-old defenseman has had a sluggish start to 2025-26 with eight points over 13 contests. Offense isn't a huge part of his game, as he topped out at 27 points in 65 regular-season games with WHL Brandon in 2023-24 and had just 15 points between Brandon and Tri-City over 66 appearances last year. He's under contract with the Blue Jackets, but it's looking less likely he'll be an effective scorer from the blue line if he gets to the NHL level.

  • Blue Jackets' Denton Mateychuk: Banged up following loss

Head coach Dean Evason said after Sunday's loss to the Islanders that Mateychuk is banged up, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

While the exact nature and severity of Mateychuk's injury aren't yet clear, he saw a season-low 13:01 of ice time in the loss. The 21-year-old hasn't yet missed any games this year, and it's not yet clear whether his ailment will impact his availability for Wednesday's game against Calgary.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Starting against Isles

Merzlikins will be the starting goaltender for Sunday's game against the Islanders, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

It will be the 250th game of Merzlikins' career Sunday night. The 31-year-old is 98-101-35 with a 3.19 GAA and a .902 save percentage in his career. This season, he is outpacing those marks with a 4-1-0 record, 2.97 GAA and .915 save percentage. He next faces an Islanders team that's bringing up the rear in the Metropolitan Division standings.

  • Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan: Scores first goal of season

Monahan recorded a power-play goal in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Blues.

Monahan found the back of the net at the 5:07 mark of the third period with a backhander that gave Columbus a 3-1 lead, and that would end up being the game-winning goal. This was Monahan's first goal of the campaign, but he'd been producing as a playmaker lately. He's cracked the scoresheet in five of Columbus' last six games, tallying one goal, four assists, 13 shots and four hits in that span.

  • Blue Jackets' Charlie Coyle: Nets second goal of season

Coyle scored a goal, took three shots and posted a plus-1 rating in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Blues.

Coyle found the back of the net at the 4:38 mark of the first period with a tip-in, giving him two goals on the season. He was coming off a four-assist performance in the 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs on Wednesday, but that has been his lone multi-point game of the campaign. Coyle has seven points in 11 games so far in 2025-26, but since four of those points came in a single game, it's hard to rely on the 33-year-old for sustained production across the board.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Third straight two-point effort

Werenski recorded an even-strength goal and a power-play assist in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Blues.

This was Werenski's third consecutive game with a goal and an assist, though only two of those six points have come on the power play. The star defenseman had only four points through eight games prior to this strong three-game stretch.

  • Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Earns second straight win

Greaves stopped 37 of 39 shots in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Blues.

The Blue Jackets have been rotating their goaltenders this season, meaning Greaves got the nod here against St. Louis and Elvis Merzlikins will start the second leg of this back-to-back set against the Islanders on Sunday. Greaves has gone 3-3-0 this season but has won his last two starts, posting a solid .935 save percentage in that stretch. If the rotation between the pipes continues for Columbus, Greaves would be lined up to make his next start against the Flames on Wednesday.

  • Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Tending twine Saturday

Greaves will patrol the home crease against St. Louis on Saturday, per Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers.

Greaves has won two of his last three starts and is 2-3-0 with a 2.81 GAA and a .907 save percentage. He is sharing the net with Elvis Merzlikins on an equal basis at this time. The Blues are 21st in NHL scoring this season, averaging 2.91 goals per game.

  • Blue Jackets' Erik Gudbranson: Ruled out of weekend games

Gudbranson (hip) won't play Saturday against the Blues and Sunday versus the Islanders, according to Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers.

Gudbranson has already missed two games this week with the injury. The 33-year-old blueliner has five hits and one blocked shot in four appearances this season. The Blue Jackets recalled Dustin Mayo on Thursday to occupy a depth role on the roster.

  • Blue Jackets' Jordan Dumais: Three-point effort Friday

Dumais scored a goal on three shots and added two assists in AHL Cleveland's 4-3 overtime win over Milwaukee on Friday.

Dumais has four points over three contests since returning from a hip injury that had him on the non-roster list to start 2025-26. The Monsters have had a light schedule since he returned to the AHL in mid-October, which has likely helped him ease back in, and he's shown progress each game. The 21-year-old winger figures to spend most of the season with the minor-league team, though a particularly strong run of play could earn him a call-up to Columbus.

... See More ... See Less
  • Blue Jackets' Luca Del Bel Belluz: Tallies twice for Monsters

Del Bel Belluz scored two goals on four shots in AHL Cleveland's 4-3 overtime win over Milwaukee on Friday.

Del Bel Belluz has opened the AHL campaign with five points over six outings. The 21-year-old center put up eight points over 15 games with the Blue Jackets last year, so he's essentially knocking on the door of the NHL. The Blue Jackets have been unusually healthy to begin 2025-26, but Del Bel Belluz figures to be one of the first call-ups when injuries arise in Columbus.

  • Blue Jackets' William Whitelaw: Three-point effort in win

Whitelaw scored a goal on five shots and added two assists in Western Michigan University's 6-5 win over St. Cloud State University on Friday.

Whitelaw has taken a step forward this season with five goals and three helpers over seven outings. However, he's gotten on the scoresheet in just four of the Broncos' seven games. Consistency will be important, but it's clear he's found another level on offense and should continue to be an important part of a highly-ranked team.

... See More ... See Less
  • Blue Jackets' Dysin Mayo: Recalled by Columbus

Mayo was recalled by the Blue Jackets on Thursday.

Mayo spent some time with the Blue Jackets last week, but he didn't appear in any games. He'll rejoin the NHL club to provide additional depth while Erik Gudbranson deals with a hip injury. Over five regular-season appearances with AHL Cleveland this year, Mayo has recorded four assists and four PIM.

  • Blue Jackets' Dante Fabbro: Pots goal in win

Fabbro scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Fabbro stretched the Blue Jackets' lead to 5-1 late in the second period. The defenseman has a point in each of the last three games (one goal, two assists), which accounts for all of his offense this season. He's added 10 shots on net, 20 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating through 10 appearances. Fabbro is currently on the third pairing, and as such, he has little upside for fantasy unless his recent run of offense gets him back into the top four.
