  • Lightning's Mads Sogaard: Returns to AHL

Sogaard was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Wednesday. Sogaard was summoned Tuesday, and he served as the backup behind Andrei Vasilevskiy in that night's 4-1 loss to the Rangers. Sogaard was with the team because Dennis Hildeby (undisclosed) wasn't available. Sogaard's return to the minors might indicate that Hildeby is expected to be fine for Thursday's home game against Seattle, but that hasn't been confirmed.

  • Lightning's Mads Sogaard: Joining Lightning Tuesday

Sogaard was recalled from AHL Syracuse on Tuesday. Sogaard is set to provide goaltender depth behind Andrei Vasilevskiy and Dennis Hildeby at the NHL level following his call-up. The 25-year-old Sogaard is off to a strong start to the 2026-27 AHL regular season, where he has a 1-1-0 record, a shutout, a 1.73 GAA and a .937 save percentage across three appearances. It's unclear how long he will be with the Lightning before returning to the AHL, but if he does hit the ice at some point during his stint back in the NHL, he'll be doing so in his debut for Tampa Bay.

  • Lightning's Mads Sogaard: Opens AHL season with shutout

Sogaard notched a 27-save shutout in AHL Syracuse's 2-0 win over Laval on Friday. Sogaard's first game for Syracuse was a huge success. The goalie will be the organizational No. 3 for the Lightning, but he probably won't see much NHL time unless Andrei Vasilevksiy or Dennis Hildeby gets hurt. Last year, Sogaard went 7-13-4 with a 3.69 GAA and an .874 save percentage for AHL Belleville in the regular season.

  • Lightning's Mads Sogaard: Hits waivers Sunday

Sogaard was placed on waivers by the Lightning on Sunday. Sogaard signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Lightning in the offseason after he was a part of the Senators' goalie carousel in 2025-26 during Linus Ullmark's absence. The 25-year-old Sogaard primarily played with AHL Belleville, where he posted a 7-13-4 record, a 3.69 GAA and an .874 save percentage across 27 regular-season outings. He'll look to battle for AHL Syracuse's No. 1 spot between the pipes with the departure of Brandon Halverson.

  • Lightning's Mads Sogaard: Agrees to terms with Tampa Bay

Sogaard signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning on Wednesday, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Sogaard has seen limited NHL playing time over the past five seasons, making only 31 appearances for Ottawa. Across 27 regular-season outings with AHL Belleville in 2025-26, he went 7-13-4 with a 3.69 GAA and .874 save percentage.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Suffers injury Saturday

Sogaard (lower body) left midway through the third period of Denmark's 6-3 loss to Team USA on Saturday at the 2026 Olympics, per Shawn Roarke of NHL.com. He stopped 32 of 37 shots before leaving the match. According to Mark Masters of TSN, Sogaard initially sustained the injury in the second period, and it got worse. Frederik Dichow entered the game and allowed America's sixth goal. It's unclear whether Sogaard will be an option for Denmark versus Latvia on Sunday. However, it wouldn't be surprising if Frederik Andersen got the start Sunday regardless of Sogaard's availability. Andersen got Saturday's game off after being in the net for Thursday's 3-1 loss to Germany.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Sent down Tuesday

Sogaard was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Tuesday. Sogaard has logged just two games this season, posting a 1-0-0 record, 4.68 GAA and .833 save percentage. Now that Linus Ullmark is back with the team, the 25-year-old Sogaard will likely spend the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign in the minors, barring any additional goalie injuries in Ottawa.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Earns first win of season

Sogaard stopped 19 of 20 shots in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Golden Knights. Sogaard made his first start of the season Sunday and looked surprisingly competent, as he was less than five minutes away from posting a shutout until Rasmus Andersson scored with a wrister late in the third period. The 25-year-old isn't expected to see regular playing time any time soon, and now that Linus Ullmark, who operated as the backup Sunday, is back with the team, Sogaard should return to AHL Belleville. This means Ullmark should return to the No. 1 role with James Reimer as his backup.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Starting Sunday against Vegas

Sogaard will start Sunday's game against the Golden Knights, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports. Sogaard was brought up from the minors Saturday and backed up James Reimer in a 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes. With the Senators on the second leg of a back-to-back, it will be Sogaard's net to defend Sunday. The 25-year-old has appeared in one game this season, stopping 11 of 16 shots against the Avalanche on Jan 8. He'll face a Golden Knights squad that's coming off of a big win against Maple Leafs on Friday.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Falters in relief outing

Sogaard allowed five goals on 16 shots in Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Avalanche. Sogaard relieved Leevi Merilainen during the second period. While Sogaard isn't on the hook for the loss in this outing, his awful performance was what put the game out of reach for the Senators. Merilainen ultimately returned to the crease for the third period. Sogaard's standing within the Senators' organization has been dropping over the years, and the 25-year-old may be shipped back to AHL Belleville due to this outing, though Hunter Shepard isn't much of an upgrade for the backup role. The Senators' next game is Saturday in a tough matchup versus the Panthers.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Cleared to return

Sogaard (undisclosed) has been given the green light to suit up for AHL Belleville, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports Tuesday. Sogaard's return provides the Sens with some organizational depth, but he is unlikely to be promoted to the NHL any time soon. In his three appearances for Belleville this year, the 24-year-old Sogaard has posted a record of 0-1-1 with a 3.80 GAA and an .830 save percentage.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Dealing with undisclosed injury

Sogaard is being re-evaluated for an undisclosed injury suffered against AHL Toronto on Sunday, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports. Sogaard was involved in a collision in the net after playing just 3:45 of ice time in Sunday's contest. With Hunter Shepard recalled to Ottawa, the organization's goalie depth could be limited if Sogaard is forced to miss significant time. Still, for fantasy managers, the netminder's absence shouldn't be a big factor, as he is unlikely to see much in the way of NHL starts even once healthy.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Downed by Jets

Sogaard stopped 19 shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Winnipeg. Ottawa jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period, but Sogaard couldn't keep the home squad grounded after that. The 24-year-old netminder was making his first NHL start this season with Linus Ullmark (back) unavailable and Anton Forsberg (lower body) on IR, so Leevi Merilainen will likely get the start Sunday in Minnesota.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Promoted from AHL

The Senators recalled Sogaard from AHL Belleville on Friday. The Senators are shy a couple of netminders as Linus Ullmark (back) and Anton Forsberg (undisclosed) are currently on the sidelines. Ottawa also recalled netminder Leevi Merilainen on Friday to give the team a pair of healthy goaltenders, if needed versus Winnipeg on Saturday. Sogaard was 0-3-1 with a 3.24 GAA and an .877 save percentage across six appearances with Belleville before his recall.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Promoted from minors

Sogaard was brought up from AHL Belleville on Wednesday. Sogaard's promotion doesn't bode well for the availability of fellow netminder Linus Ullmark (strain) ahead of Thursday's meeting with the Devils. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old Sogaard, there aren't any back-to-backs on Ottawa's immediate schedule, which likely means this stint in the NHL will be as a backup to Anton Forsberg.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Slated to start Sunday

Sogaard is expected to start Sunday's road preseason contest versus Toronto, per TSN 1200 Ottawa. Sogaard posted a 1-3-0 record with a 4.05 GAA and an .859 save percentage in six regular-season outings with Ottawa in 2023-24. He will probably begin the 2024-25 campaign in the minors. Dustin Tokarski, a training camp invitee on a professional tryout agreement, will be the backup for Sunday's contest.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Loses close game

Sogaard stopped 14 of 16 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Ducks. Sogaard didn't face a lot of traffic, but goals early in the second and third period ended up being enough to send him to the loss. The 23-year-old goalie is down to 1-3-0 with a 4.04 GAA and an .859 save percentage over six appearances this season. Anton Forsberg (lower body) was healthy enough to back up Wednesday and Joonas Korpisalo (illness) is also on the road trip, so Sogaard's stint with the big club may not last much longer.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: In goal Wednesday

Sogaard will protect the road goal versus the Ducks on Wednesday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa. Sogaard will start his second game in a row after stopping 36 of 39 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Flyers on Saturday. It's unclear who will back him up -- coming into Wednesday, Anton Forsberg was dealing with a lower-body injury and Joonas Korpisalo was sick.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Solid night against Flyers

Sogaard made 36 saves in a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. Every goal was a tough one. Sogaard had a bead on the first one, but Joel Farabee redirected the shot past him at 1:08 of the first. Tyson Foerster scored twice in the last minute of the second, first on a 2-on-1 and then 45 seconds later on a penalty shot. Sogaard was solid Saturday, but he's 1-2-0 with a 4.58 GAA and .857 save percentage in five NHL appearances this season. He will head back to the AHL as soon as Joonas Korpisalo (illness) returns to action.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Sent down

Sogaard was sent down to AHL Belleville on Wednesday. Sogaard has given up 14 goals on 80 shots across four NHL appearances this season. The 23-year-old will swap places with Kevin Mandolese during the NHL's All-Star break, though it's unclear if this move will stick once the Senators' season resumes Feb. 10 versus the Maple Leafs.
