Avalanche's Tristen Nielsen: Optioned to minors
Nielsen was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Sunday.
Nielsen recorded his first career NHL point in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Blackhawks. The 25-year-old had the lone helper on Cale Makar's ninth goal of the season at the 18:21 mark of the second period. Considering the Avalanche currently have four injured forwards on the roster, Nielsen will probably be summoned from the minors again ahead of Wednesday's home game versus the Sharks.

Avalanche's Tristen Nielsen: Scores twice in AHL win
Nielsen scored two goals in AHL Colorado's 3-2 shootout win over Abbotsford on Saturday.
This was Nielsen's first multi-goal game of the season, and it came against his former team. He's earned eight goals and 12 points through 14 appearances, a performance that earned him his NHL debut Nov. 4 as the Avalanche faced the Lightning. If he continues to play well with the Eagles, he could be a candidate for another call-up.

Avalanche's Tristen Nielsen: Sent down after debut
Nielsen was reassigned to AHL Colorado following Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Lightning.
Nielsen made his NHL debut Tuesday, logging four hits in 5:25 of ice time. Gavin Brindley is dealing with a concussion, but the Avalanche are off until Saturday's game in Edmonton. That could give Brindley enough time to heal, and if not, Nielsen will be able to get into the requisite one game with the minor-league team before a potential recall would be necessary.

Avalanche's Tristen Nielsen: Summoned from AHL
Nielsen was recalled from AHL Colorado on Monday.
Nielsen has yet to make his NHL debut, but the 25-year-old could draw into the lineup Tuesday versus the Lightning if Gavin Brindley (concussion) is unavailable. Nielsen has been a steady contributor with the Eagles in 2025-26 -- he's accounted for five goals, nine points and a plus-4 rating over 11 outings. The British Columbia native had just 28 points across 67 regular-season games with AHL Abbotsford last year, so his offense is trending in the right direction.

Avalanche's Tristen Nielsen: Inks two-year contract
Nielsen signed a two-year, two-way contract with Colorado on Monday.
Nielsen has three goals and four assists in seven outings with AHL Colorado this season. His new deal with the Avalanche runs through the 2026-27 campaign. Nielsen attended NHL training camp with Colorado after signing an AHL contract with the Eagles in the summer.

Avalanche's Tristen Nielsen: Heads to minors
Nielsen was returned to AHL Colorado on Saturday.
The Avalanche simply wanted another option for Saturday's preseason finale against Dallas, so Nielsen's latest stint with the big club lasted for less than 24 hours. The 25-year-old is expected to spend most, if not all, of the 2025-26 regular season in the minors.

Avalanche's Tristen Nielsen: Called up from AHL
Nielsen was recalled from AHL Colorado on Saturday, according to Brennan Vogt of Hockey Mountain High.
Nielsen played in the Vancouver system last season, posting 15 goals and 28 points in 67 regular-season contests for AHL Abbotsford. He will likely be sent back to AHL Colorado soon, as the Avalanche recalled him to fill out their roster for the preseason finale against Dallas.

Tristen Nielsen: Hitting open market
Nielsen will become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday after Vancouver decided not to give him a qualifying offer.
Nielsen has yet to make his NHL debut after joining the club out of juniors back in 2021-22. The 25-year-old center put up decent numbers with AHL Abbotsford this past year -- 15 goals and 13 assists in 67 regular-season contests -- so he could certainly find a two-way deal somewhere in the NHL ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
