Soderblom allowed two goals on 21 shots in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Kings. The third goal was an empty-netter.
Soderblom didn't play poorly, but the Kings' pair of goals in a span of 1:24 during the second period ended up being the difference. This outing dropped Soderblom to a 1-1-1 record with nine goals allowed on 80 shots through three appearances. With how well Spencer Knight has played early in 2025-26, it's unlikely Soderblom will see much more than a backup role most of the time. The Blackhawks have yet to play back-to-back days, but Soderblom is virtually guaranteed a start in each of those sets as well as picking up the occasional assignment to give Knight rest.

Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom: Slated to start
Soderblom is expected to guard the home goal against the Kings on Sunday, according to CHGO Blackhawks.
Soderblom hasn't played since Oct. 15, when he stopped 23 shots in an 8-3 win over St. Louis. He has a 1-0-1 record this season while stopping 52 of 59 shots. The Kings have posted 2.78 goals per game through nine outings this season.

Soderblom can be expected to continue handling the backup role, with Spencer Knight likely to get the nod for Friday's home game versus the Canucks.

Soderblom will be back with the Blackhawks on a new, two-year agreement following a season in which he held a 10-18-7 record, 3.18 GAA and an .898 save percentage. The 25-year-old has yet to play more than 40 games in a season during his young career, and the presence of Spencer Knight as Chicago's probable starting netminder means that Soderblom will be the backup and likely won't reach 40 games again this season.

Soderblom can hardly afford to have a bad outing -- Spencer Knight had started the previous two games and looks to be solidifying himself as the No. 1 netminder. Soderblom earned his ninth loss in 10 appearances (1-5-4), and he's down to 8-16-7 with a 3.14 GAA and a .901 save percentage through 32 appearances this season. The Blackhawks are back in action at home Tuesday versus the Kraken, and Soderblom may have to wait until next weekend's back-to-back to get in the crease again.
