Stars' Casey DeSmith: Drops result in shootout
DeSmith stopped 31 of 33 shots in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Flames.
DeSmith's winning streak ended at three games. This was a good performance -- he kept the Stars in it long enough for them to dig out of a 2-0 hole, but he gave up two goals on four attempts in the shootout to take the defeat. He's now 4-1-2 with a 2.22 GAA and a .917 save percentage over seven starts, which has helped the Stars feel comfortable giving Jake Oettinger about one game off per week. DeSmith shouldn't have to wait long for another turn -- the Stars' road trip ends with a back-to-back featuring games in Edmonton on Tuesday and Seattle on Wednesday. He won his previous start against each of those teams, stopping 23 of 26 shots in a shootout win versus the Oilers on Nov. 4, followed by a win over the Kraken on Nov. 9 in which he saved 30 of 31 shots.

DeSmith will defend the road net against the Flames on Saturday, according to Mike Heika of the Stars' official site.
DeSmith is coming off a 24-save performance in a 7-0 shutout win over Montreal on Nov. 13. He has a 4-1-1 record this season while making 146 saves on 160 shots. Calgary sits 32nd in the league with 2.27 goals per game this campaign.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Cruises to first shutout of season
DeSmith made 24 saves in Thursday's 7-0 rout over the Canadiens.
The shutout was the first of the season for DeSmith and the 13th of his career. The veteran backup to Jake Oettinger hasn't taken a regulation loss since his first start of 2025-26, going 4-0-1 over his last five outings with a dazzling 1.75 GAA and .933 save percentage, and that level of play has been earning DeSmith a bigger share of the workload of late -- those five starts have come in the Stars' last 10 games.

DeSmith got the nod for this game to allow Jake Oettinger (personal) some rest, though the new dad Oettinger was able to dress as the backup. The 34-year-old DeSmith had some early struggles, allowing two goals in the first 7:07 before settling in to allow the Stars to make a comeback. The result was DeSmith's second win in four outings, giving him a 2-1-1 record with a 3.15 GAA and an .876 save percentage this season. He won't get a lot of opportunities between the pipes as a backup. Oettinger will likely start Thursday at home versus the Ducks, but DeSmith should be in line for another start this weekend, either at Nashville on Saturday or at home against the Kraken on Sunday.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Makes 17 saves in relief
DeSmith stopped 17 of 20 shots in relief after replacing starter Jake Oettinger early in the first period of Thursday's 6-3 loss to Edmonton in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
This was DeSmith's first action since April 26 when he replaced Oettinger in Game 4 against the Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs. The Avalanche won 4-0, and DeSmith stopped 13 of 14 shots in that matchup. DeSmith is a good goalie, but the whole team was rattled Thursday, and he allowed a goal 58 seconds after taking the blue paint. DeSmith is signed for two more seasons at $1 million to back up Oettinger, and when he sees playing time, DeSmith will provide steady fantasy contributions in daily formats given the strength of the squad he plays behind.
