    Gelinas was placed on unconditional waivers by Carolina on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Assuming he clears waivers, Gelinas will be a free agent. The 30-year-old blueliner hasn't appeared in an NHL game since the 2016-17 campaign.

    Gelinas signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Hurricanes on Sunday. Gelinas could make as much as $750,000 if he can stick at the NHL level. That seems unlikely, though, as the veteran defenseman last played in the NHL back in 2016-17 with Colorado.
