Blues' Milan Lucic: Having PTO extended
Lucic will rehab his lower-body injury in St. Louis, and the team will extend his professional tryout agreement in 10-day increments to determine whether he will receive a full contract, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports Tuesday.
Lucic hasn't played in the NHL since 2023-24, so he has an uphill battle to secure a roster spot on a deep Blues team. Even if he does, the 37-year-old forward will more than likely not provide much in the way of fantasy value.

Blues' Milan Lucic: Returns to practice
Lucic (groin) was back at practice Monday. Head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters, "He looked really good, looked really sharp. It's good to have him back out there," Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reports.
Lucic is trying to earn a contract from the Blues while attending camp on a professional tryout, so every missed day due to his groin injury wasn't doing him any favors. Even if the veteran winger makes the Opening Night roster, he still might find himself serving as a healthy scratch periodically, especially if Alexei Toropchenko takes the next step in his development.

Blues' Milan Lucic: Considered day-to-day
Head coach Jim Montgomery said Wednesday that Lucic (groin) is considered day-to-day, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Lucic exited Tuesday's practice session due to his groin injury, but the issue doesn't appear to be a long-term concern. However, it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to suit up in Saturday's preseason game against Chicago. Lucic will likely have to return to the ice sooner rather than later if he hopes to earn a spot on the Blues' Opening Night roster.

Blues' Milan Lucic: Exits practice early
Lucic couldn't finish practice Tuesday and is questionable to be on the ice Wednesday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Lucic is in camp with the Blues on a PTO, so missing any time certainly isn't going to help his cause. Still, the winger's injury doesn't sound serious, and he could be ready in time to face the Blackhawks in Saturday's preseason matchup. If Lucic does make the team, it figures to be in a bottom-six role, though he could move up the lineup if there are injuries among the forward group.

Blues' Milan Lucic: Secures PTO
Lucic signed a professional tryout agreement with St. Louis on Tuesday.
Lucic didn't play in the NHL last season after first taking an indefinite leave of absence during the 2023-24 season and then entering the NHL Player Assistance Program. The 37-year-old winger has since been reinstated by the league and will look to revive his NHL career. Over the course of 17 seasons, Lucic has racked up 233 goals and 353 assists while also dishing out 3,265 hits. If he makes the Blues, it figures to be in a bottom-six role that will lean into his physicality.

Bruins' Milan Lucic: Won't return to team
Lucic (ankle) will remain on an indefinite leave of absence from the Bruins for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign, per Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald.
Lucic was facing domestic assault charges in a case that was expected to go to trial Friday before the charges were dropped by the prosecutor's office due to a lack of evidence, leading to speculation regarding his future with the team. Lucic is currently signed by the Bruins through the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Bruins' Milan Lucic: Recovery slow going
Lucic (ankle) is not recovering as quickly as expected. Coach Jim Montgomery told reporters Monday, "Looch is not going as quick as we expected, so he's maybe a week behind where we expected, but it's not dramatic."
Lucic has already missed 10 games while on long-term injured reserve but won't be back in the short term based on this latest news. In his four games this season, the veteran winger managed two assists but put just one shot on goal while averaging 11:58 of ice time per game. Until Lucic is cleared to return, Oskar Steen and Jakub Lauko figure to serve in fourth-line roles.

Bruins' Milan Lucic: Designated for injured reserve
Lucic (ankle) was placed on long-term injured reserve Friday, per the NHL media site.
Lucic's IR designation shouldn't come as a surprise after news broke that he would be out for a couple of weeks. At this point, given he has already missed three games, the winger's placement on injured reserve shouldn't impact his timeline to return. In the meantime, Jesper Boqvist should see extra minutes in a bottom-six role.

Bruins' Milan Lucic: Signs with Boston
Lucic signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Boston on Saturday, Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports.
Lucic returns home to his first NHL team after eight seasons away from the Bruins. He's far from the player he was when he spent the first seven years of his NHL career with Boston, but Lucic will still provide toughness as a fourth-line forward. Lucic had seven goals, 12 assists, 43 PIM and 168 hits in 77 games with Calgary last season.
