  • Ravens' Trenton Simpson: Reverts to reserve role Week 8

Simpson played 22 snaps (10 on defense, 12 on special teams) without showing up on the box score otherwise during the Ravens' 30-16 win over the Bears on Sunday. Simpson started at inside linebacker in Weeks 5 and 6 and accumulated 19 total tackles, including 1.5 sacks, over that span. However, the 2023 third-rounder returned to a reserve role on defense and as a special-teams contributor in Week 8 due to the return of Roquan Smith. Simpson could return to a starting role against the Dolphins on Thursday if Teddye Buchanan is not cleared to play due to a calf injury.

  • Ravens' Trenton Simpson: Totals nine tackles in loss

Simpson recorded nine tackles (four solo), including 0.5 sacks, during the Ravens' loss versus the Rams on Sunday. Simpson got the start at linebacker for the second straight week as Roquan Smith remained sidelined with a hamstring injury. Simpson ended up matching Teddye Buchanan for the most tackles on the team, bringing his total on the season up to 49 (23 solo). He will likely return to a reserve role Week 8 versus the Bears, as Smith is expected to return following the team's upcoming bye.

  • Ravens' Trenton Simpson: Career-high 10 tackles in loss

Simpson registered 10 tackles (four solo), including 1.0 sacks, during Sunday's 44-10 loss to the Texans. Simpson made his second start of the season at inside linebacker due to the absence of Roquan Smith (hamstring). Simpson was on the field for 66 of 70 defensive snaps (94.3 percent) and logged double-digit tackles for the first time in his three-year NFL career. The 2023 third-rounder also recorded his first sack of the season late in the third quarter after taking down C.J. Stroud for a nine-yard loss. Simpson is up to 21 tackles (11 solo) through the first five games of the regular season.

  • Ravens' Trenton Simpson: Cleared to return versus Rams

Simpson (concussion) was a full participant in Friday's practice and does not carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams. Simpson missed the last three games after sustaining a concussion in Week 10 against the Browns. His return will bolster the Ravens' inside linebacker depth behind starters Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen.

  • Ravens' Trenton Simpson: Battling soft tissue injury

Coach John Harbaugh said Friday that Simpson is dealing with a "soft tissue" injury and could miss some time, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. The third-round rookie out of Clemson is expected to open his NFL career as the top linebacker reserve behind Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen.

  • Ravens' Trenton Simpson: Landed by Baltimore in third round

The Ravens selected Simpson in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 86th overall. It's not obvious why Simpson fell this far -- he seemed like a fine selection as high as the second round -- but this looks like a solid pick for Baltimore. The Clemson product has 4.43 speed at 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, and in college he showed the ability to play the edge surprisingly well for a player of his frame, which is more commonly seen in off-ball linebackers. Simpson might be able to displace Patrick Queen in time.
