Saints' Bryan Bresee: Placed on injured reserve
The Saints placed Bresee (knee) on injured reserve Friday.
Bresee tore his ACL in an early training-camp practice and will undergo surgery in the coming weeks. He'll turn his attention toward rehab and recovery and aim to be fully healthy for the 2027 season, which will be his last under his rookie contract with the Saints. Saints' Bryan Bresee: Set for season-ending ACL surgery
Saints head coach Kellen Moore said Sunday that Bresee will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
It's a brutal blow for Bresee, who has played in 46 of 48 possible regular-season games since being selected by the Saints in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. An ACL repair procedure typically carries a nine-month recovery timeline, so Bresee should be available for the 2027 season, which is the final year of his rookie contract. John Ridgeway figures to step into a starting role at defensive end opposite veteran Cameron Jordan, while Michael Heldman, Vernon Broughton and Tyree Wilson compete for rotational snaps.

Saints' Bryan Bresee: Possibly done for season
Bresee (knee) is feared to have suffered a torn ACL during Wednesday's practice, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The defensive lineman is undergoing extensive testing to confirm, but his ACL is likely torn, and he is likely done for the season. If the worst is true, John Ridgeway and Vernon Broughton (hip) will need to step up and prove they can produce for the Saints' defensive front.

Saints' Bryan Bresee: Contract option picked up
The Saints have picked up Bresee's fifth-year contract option, Matthew Paras of The Times-Picayune reports.
As a result of the move, Bresee, who was the Saints' 2023 first-round pick, will be under contract with the team for the 2027 season under a deal estimated to be "north of $13 million," per Paras. The 24-year-old logged 37 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 15 regular-season games in 2025 while seeing action on a career-high 69 percent of New Orleans' defensive snaps. Considering that he recorded 7.5 sacks in 2024, Bresee -- who is presumably past the knee issue he dealt with late last season -- is a bounce-back candidate this year in his starting role along the Saints' defensive line.

Bresee (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Falcons, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Bresee hasn't returned to practice since sustaining a knee injury in the Week 16 win over the Jets, so it's no surprise he'll be sidelined Sunday. The third-year pro from Clemson had a relatively underwhelming 2025 campaign, recording 37 total tackles, including 2.5 sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble over 15 appearances. Coach Kellen Moore said Monday that Bresee (knee) will not play in Sunday's game against the Titans, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Bresee was injured in Sunday's win over the Jets, and Moore said they'll reevaluate Bresee next week to see if he'll be able to play in the Week 18 regular-season finale against the Falcons. Bresee has started all 15 games this season, recording a career-high 37 tackles (15 solo), including 2.5 sacks, three pass breakups and one forced fumble on 69 percent of the defensive snaps.
