Packers' Savion Williams: On mend from high-ankle sprain
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Tuesday that Williams is recovering from a high-ankle sprain and should be ready to return from injured reserve when first eligible in Week 5, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
Williams wasn't known to have dealing with any injuries before he landed on injured reserve Sunday, but Gutekunst's comments provided some clarity. Assuming that the second-year wideout bounces back from the high-ankle sprain as anticipated, he should be ready to make his 2026 debut Oct. 11 versus the Bears. With Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden locked in as Green Bay's top three receivers, Williams is unlikely to see much action, but he could have a small role on offense as a gadget player in addition to serving as the team's top kickoff returner, and Watson has missed at least two games in each of his four NFL seasons.

Packers' Savion Williams: Hits IR, but designated to return
The Packers placed Williams (undisclosed) on injured reserve Sunday with a designation to return, Wes Hodkiewicz of the team's official site reports.
Williams wasn't necessarily hampered by a health concern during training camp and the preseason, but an unknown injury will conspire to sideline him for at least the first four games of the campaign. Behind Green Bay's big three wide receivers Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden, the initial position group on the active roster also includes Skyy Moore, Bo Melton and undrafted rookie J. Michael Sturdivant. Williams' earliest possible time to make his season debut is Sunday, Oct. 11 versus the Bears.

Packers' Savion Williams: Stands out at Sunday's session
Williams, per head coach Matt LaFleur, "had a good day" at Sunday's practice session, according to Weston Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site.
Williams saw added opportunities with both Jayden Reed (ankle) and Matthew Golden (toe) sitting out, and he capitalized by hauling in nearly every pass thrown his direction. Williams didn't do a lot in his 2025 rookie season and remains behind both receivers already mentioned as well as Christian Watson in the pecking order, but he is the favorite to head into Week 1 with the fourth spot on the depth chart.

Williams concluded the 2025 campaign on IR due to a foot injury that forced him to miss five of Green Bay's final six regular-season contests, but he now appears back to full health. The 2025 third-round pick secured all 10 of his targets for 78 yards and a score and logged 11 carries for 37 across 12 regular-season appearances as a rookie, in addition to 717 yards as a kickoff returner. Williams is positioned to spend the offseason competing for opportunities on offense in a wide receiver room that saw both Romeo Doubs (Patriots) and Dontayvion Wicks (Eagles) move on. He also faces competition from Skyy Moore for touches in the return game.

Williams (foot) finished the 2025 regular season with 10 catches (on 10 targets) for 78 yards and a touchdown and added 11 carries for 37 yards in 12 games.
The wide receiver did also record 717 yards as a kickoff returner. It should be noted that a foot injury forced Williams out for five of the Packers' last six regular-season games, as well as the team's playoff loss to the Bears. At the same time, the 2025 third-round pick's highest offensive snap count in a game prior to the injury was 19 in Week 9 against Carolina.

Williams missed the final two practices of Week 18 prep due to a foot injury and an illness. The rookie third-rounder will end up missing the last two games of the regular season and will aim to be available for the wild-card round of the playoffs. Williams missed last Saturday's loss to Baltimore due to a foot injury and an illness, but he seems to have a chance of returning to action Sunday in Minnesota. It's possible the illness was the primary cause of the rookie's absence against the Ravens, as he's been dealing with the foot issue for some time and was deemed healthy throughout last week before he was deemed questionable to play because of the illness. The Packers are slated to rest multiple starters this Sunday since they are locked into the No. 7 playoff seed in the NFC, so Williams could have a larger role on offense than usual if he's able to suit up.
