Wayne reverted to the Texans' practice squad Monday.
Wayne was elevated for the first time this season ahead of Sunday's win over San Francisco, as both Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) were unable to suit up. He took the field for 35 of the Texans' 80 offensive snaps -- third-most among Houston wideouts -- and caught both of his targets for 20 yards. Wayne's likelihood of being elevated again for a Week 9 game versus Denver could depend on whether Collins and/or Kirk is able to return to action.

Wayne will join Houston's active roster, which will be without both Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring), both of whom were ruled out. Wayne is expected to serve as the fifth wideout on the depth chart behind Xavier Hutchinson, Jayden Higgins, Jaylin Noel and Braxton Berrios.

Texans' Jared Wayne: Joins active roster
Rotowire
The Texans signed Wayne from their practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The 25-year-old from Pittsburgh adds much-needed depth to the Texans' receiving corps, as Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) are both dealing with injuries. Wayne appeared in three games with the Texans in 2024, failing to record an offensive stat over 64 total snaps (40 on offense, 24 on special teams). Now back with the active roster, he's likely to contribute on both offense and special teams in Houston's Week 8 matchup against the 49ers.

Texans' Jared Wayne: Added to active roster
Rotowire
The Texans signed Wayne off their practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Wayne takes the 53-man roster spot vacated by Diontae Johnson, whom Houston cut earlier Tuesday. Wayne has been elevated numerous times already this season, appearing in three regular-season contests. He didn't catch a single pass on 40 offensive snaps, however, and is unlikely to see much playing time on offense as the Texans' fifth receiver behind Nico Collins, John Metchie, Robert Woods and Xavier Hutchinson.

Rotowire
The Texans reverted Wayne to their practice squad Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Wayne was elevated for the second straight week ahead of Wednesday's loss to Baltimore and logged 16 offensive snaps without receiving a target. He's now been elevated three total times this season, so the Texans would need to sign Wayne to their active roster in order for him to play Week 18 against Tennessee. Texans' Jared Wayne: Getting opportunity Week 13
Rotowire
The Texans elevated Wayne from their practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's battle with the Jaguars, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Wayne originally signed with Houston as an undrafted free agent in April of 2023, and he hasn't yet gotten into an NFL game. He was a standout college receiver for Pittsburgh, recording 60 catches for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns over 12 games in his final season. If Wayne is active Sunday, he'll likely see few (if any) offensive snaps due to most of the Texans' wideout corps being healthy.

Jared Wayne: Signs with Texans
Rotowire
Wayne was signed to the Texans' practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Wayne was in Houston for a visit Tuesday and he must've impressed, earning himself an opportunity with the team's practice unit. The wide receiver was let go by the Texans in July with an injury settlement and he'll now return to the organization. With Nico Collins (hamstring) on injured reserve for at least the next four weeks, it's possible that Wayne could see an elevation to the active roster in the near future.

Texans' Jared Wayne: Signs deal with Houston
Rotowire
The Texans signed Wayne to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Wayne was placed on Houston's practice squad injured list in early December but is evidently healthy enough to sign a deal and go into the offseason with the Texans. Undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2023, he spent most of the season on Houston's practice squad after failing to catch a pass during the preseason.
