Jordan has been dealing with a strained hip flexor and didn't play at all during the preseason slate. However, the 27-year-old should be good to go for the beginning of the regular season as long as he doesn't experience any setbacks during upcoming practices. Jordan is slated to work as Houston's No. 3 RB this year behind David Montgomery and Woody Marks.

Jordan suffered a hip flexor strain at practice in early August, and he still appears to be less than 100 percent. Fellow running back British Brooks (hand) returned to practice Monday after missing three weeks following hand surgery, and the two players are battling to secure a spot on Houston's initial 53-man roster as reserve options behind Woody Marks and David Montgomery.

Texans' Jawhar Jordan: Sidelined due to hip injury
Jordan is dealing with a hip flexor strain and will be sidelined for "roughly a week," Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Per Wilson, Jordan has been having a good camp, but he'll have to take some time off due to the injury. That likely rules him out of Houston's first preseason game (Thursday, Aug. 13, versus the Chargers), but Jordan could still get a chance to show off his skill set in game action before the start of the regular season. As it currently stands, he's expected to work as the Texans' third running back this season behind David Montgomery and Woody Marks.

Texans' Jawhar Jordan: Solidifying RB3 case
Texans running backs coach Danny Barrett said Jordan is "playing faster than he was last year" as he competes for the No. 3 running back spot behind David Montgomery and Woody Marks, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Jordan flashed genuine juice in his regular-season debut last season, rushing for 101 yards on 15 carries in a Week 15 matchup against the Cardinals. His 50-yard breakaway in that game was the Texans' longest run of the season. The 26-year-old is competing against undrafted rookies Noah Whittington and Josh Pitsenberger, as well as former Colt and Saint Evan Hull, for a roster spot. British Brooks' special-teams acumen also complicates the backfield math, but improvement in Jordan's speed, third-down work and hands make the 2024 sixth-round pick the early favorite for the No. 3 gig.

Texans' Jawhar Jordan: Under contract for 2026
Jordan finished the 2025 season with 43 carries for 193 yards over four regular-season games. He added seven catches on seven targets for 34 yards.
Jordan was signed off the practice squad in late in the season when both Woody Marks and Nick Chubb were hobbled by injury. Jordan had an impressive debut in Week 15, when he logged 15 carries for 101 yards in a win over Arizona. Once Marks and Chubb got healthy, Jordan served in a backup role and was inactive for both of Houston's playoff games. He's under contract for 2026, but the Texans are expected to reinforce their backfield during the offseason, so Jordan may not have a path to a regular role.
