  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Concussion confirmed

Kmet won't return to Sunday's contest at Cincinnati due to a concussion, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Kmet paid a visit to the sideline tent in the second quarter and then went to the locker room before the Bears announced that he was being checked for a concussion. With a head injury confirmed, he'll be out until he gains clearance from an independent neurologist. Rookie second-round pick Colston Loveland is set to lead Chicago's TE group during Kmet's absence.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Possible concussion

Kmet is under evaluation for a possible concussion during Sunday's contest at Cincinnati. Kmet visited the medical tent in the second quarter and then walked to the locker room before the Bears made this announcement. At the time of his departure, he'd hauled in one of two targets for 10 yards and also was 0-for-1 passing. Rookie first-rounder Colston Loveland is poised for more work for as long as Kmet is sidelined.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Cleared to return

Kmet (back) was a full practice participant Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bengals. Kmet will return from a one-game absence and likely continue rotating with rookie Colston Loveland, who caught three passes for 38 yards in the loss to Baltimore last week. A favorable matchup with the Bengals should lead to some TE production, but it's hard to say which guy will come out ahead in terms of snaps and routes, never mind targets.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Limited for second straight day

Kmet (back) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. After missing the first game of his career in this past Sunday's loss to the Ravens, Kmet has opened Week 9 prep with a pair of limited sessions. If he can upgrade to full participation Friday, Kmet should be in good position to reclaim his usual duties as the Bears' starting tight end. While Kmet was sidelined this past weekend, rookie first-round pick Colston Loveland played a season-high 81 percent of the snaps on offense and finished with three catches for 38 yards on five targets.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: First career absence in Week 8

Kmet (back) won't play Sunday against the Ravens. Kmet will miss a regular-season game for the first time in his NFL career after starting his career with a 90-game ironman streak. Rookie first-round pick Colston Loveland is expected to see increased usage in Kmet's absence. Head coach Ben Johnson deemed Kmet "week-to-week" Friday but said the tight end isn't a candidate to go on injured reserve, per Scott Bair of Marquee Sports Network.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Sits out another practice

Kmet (back) was a non-participant in Thursday's practice. Kmet didn't take any reps for the second day in a row and may be trending toward missing Sunday's game in Baltimore. Before the Bears decide whether Kmet takes a designation into the weekend or gets ruled out for Sunday's contest, the team will wait and see if he's able to log any on-field work Friday. Rookie first-round pick Colston Loveland would be in line for a hefty snap count at tight end if Kmet is unable to play in Baltimore.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Misses practice

Kmet (back) didn't practice Wednesday. Rookie TE Colston Loveland played 91 percent of Chicago's snaps after Kmet left Sunday's win over New Orleans in the third quarter. Prior to the injury, Kmet and Loveland had been working in a timeshare, with neither seeing many targets on a big day for the Bears' running game. Loveland may be tasked with a three-down role this Sunday in Baltimore if Kmet isn't ready to play.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Leaves Sunday's game

Kmet exited Sunday's game against the Saints after sustaining a back injury. Prior to that, Kmet caught his only target for 16 yards. While he's sidelined, Colston Loveland and Durham Smythe are available to handle the Bears' tight-end duties versus New Orleans.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: No impact in passing game

Kmet caught one of two targets for zero yards in the Bears' 25-24 win over the Commanders on Monday. Even with 2025 first-round pick Colston Loveland struggling to stay healthy and adjust to the NFL, Kmet hasn't been a big factor in the Chicago offense. The veteran tight end has 10 or fewer yards in two of his last three games en route to an 8-116-1 line for the season on 18 targets, leaving him as a depth fantasy option.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Leads team in targets

Kmet caught three of nine targets for 46 yards in the Bears' 25-24 win over the Raiders on Sunday. After Kmet was targeted a total of seven times in the first three games of 2025, his nine targets in Week 4 was likely a result of Chicago trying to use quick passes to keep the Las Vegas pass rush off Caleb Williams. Despite the busy afternoon, Kmet will need to string a couple of games with high volume to be considered a reliable fantasy option, although his outlook has improved somewhat with rookie Colston Loveland struggling and dealing with a hip injury.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Logs full practice Thursday

Kmet (groin) practiced in full Thursday. One day removed from being limited due to a groin injury Wednesday, Kmet didn't have any practice restrictions, while rookie TE Colston Loveland remained sidelined due to the hip issue that he suffered this past Sunday against the Cowboys. If Loveland is inhibited or sidelined Sunday at Las Vegas, Kmet would be in line for a bump in volume in the Bears' passing game.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Tending to groin issue

Kmet was limited at practice Wednesday due to a groin injury. Kmet has played the lion's share of the Bears' offensive snaps this season, and while he ran a route on 71 percent of them this past Sunday against the Cowboys, he was targeted only once by QB Caleb Williams. Fortunately for managers that roster Kmet, it happened to be a 10-yard touchdown catch. Meanwhile, rookie first-round pick Colston Loveland wasn't able to practice Wednesday due to the hip injury that knocked him out of Week 3 action. Kmet thus appears poised for another large workload Week 4 at Las Vegas, assuming he's able to suit up and Loveland is inhibited or even sidelined.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Scores first TD of 2025

Kmet caught his only target for a 10-yard touchdown in the Bears' 31-14 win over the Cowboys on Sunday. Although Kmet plays more snaps than rookie teammate Colston Loveland, he has just seven targets and four receptions over the first three games. However, with 29 and 31 yards in two of those three games to go with Sunday's touchdown, the veteran tight end may be carving out a consistent, low-volume role in the Chicago passing attack.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Serves as top tight end Monday

Kmet finished with a 31-yard reception on four targets in Monday's 27-24 loss to the Vikings. The Bears invested a first-round pick in April's draft in tight end Colston Loveland, but at least for one week, Kmet served as the team's top option at the position. In addition to garnering the start, Kmet out-snapped the rookie by a 60-38 margin and also earned two more targets than Loveland, who finished with two receptions for 12 yards. Loveland had missed time in the spring while recovering from January shoulder surgery, so it's possible that with more practice time, he will usurp Kmet on the depth chart.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Rips off big gain Sunday

Kmet took his only reception for 29 yards in Sunday's preseason win over the Bills. Kmet was the only question mark amongst the first-team offense heading into Sunday's dress rehearsal, but he wound up suiting up after working with the training staff pregame. The veteran starter showed no ill effects from the minor back injury he was nursing earlier in camp, ripping off a 29-yard gain with his only touch against Buffalo. Kmet posted a modest 47-474-4 receiving line in 17 games last season, but he will face playing time competition after the Bears drafted TE Colston Loveland with the 10th overall pick in this year's draft.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Might not suit up versus Bills

Kmet may not suit up with the rest of Chicago's starters during Sunday's preseason game against Buffalo, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. The Bears are expected to play their starters versus the Bills, according to Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune. This would include Kmet as TE1, but he was seen working under the supervision of members of Chicago's training staff during early pregame warmups, which indicates that he's not guaranteed to participate in Sunday's exhibition. The 26-year-old was previously sidelined with a back injury for a couple days during training camp before he returned to the field Aug. 8. If Kmet is out, then rookie first-round pick Colston Loveland would be in line to start ahead of fellow tight end Durham Smythe.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Back at practice

Kmet (undisclosed) returned to practice Thursday, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Kmet left practice early Tuesday, so whatever was bothering him clearly wasn't a serious issue. Kmet has been active with the first-team offense during camp despite the Bears using the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 Draft on Colston Loveland. New coach Ben Johnson is expected to involve both tight ends this season.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Embraces TE tandem vision

Kmet remains a key part of Chicago's 12-personnel-heavy offense, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports. Despite initially being surprised by the Bears' selection of Colston Loveland, Kmet has bought into coach Ben Johnson's plan to use both tight ends. Johnson ran the NFL's third-most plays out of 12 personnel last year, and Kmet is expected to be on the field frequently in those sets. His role as a core piece in two-TE packages should provide limited fantasy viability, as target volume likely remains capped with Loveland expected to be the primary pass catcher.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Facing target competition

The Bears are looking forward to using both Kmet and first-round draft choice Colston Loveland in two tight-end sets, " Larry Mayer of ChicagoBears.com reports. In 2024, Kmet recorded 47 receptions for 474 yards and four touchdowns on 55 targets, marking his least productive season since his rookie year in 2020. After playing 87 percent of the offensive snaps last season, Kmet now faces significant competition following the first-round selection of Loveland, whose arrival could sharply reduce his role. Although Loveland is expected to be an adequate blocker, the Bears likely drafted the former Michigan standout for his ability to create mismatches in the passing game. Unless the situation shifts during training camp, Kmet may go undrafted in the majority of fantasy leagues.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Disappointing season concludes

Kmet caught both his targets for three yards in the Bears' 24-22 win over the Packers on Sunday. Kmet posted a career year in 2023, recording 73 catches on 90 targets for 719 yards and six touchdowns while serving as the de facto No. 2 option in the team's passing attack. The Bears had three quality wide receivers in 2024 however after bringing in Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze to support DJ Moore, while rookie QB Caleb Williams was not an immediate success in the NFL. As a result, Kmet was targeted just 55 times, leading to 474 yards and four touchdowns. In terms of receptions and yardage, this was the tight end's worst season since his rookie campaign in 2020. Kmet will need the Chicago passing attack to take a major step forward under its new coaching staff if he has any hope of being a solid fantasy option again, although if Allen departs in free agency, it could open up more looks for the TE. Kmet is under contract with the Bears through 2027.
