  • Panthers' Damarri Mathis: Placed on IR

The Panthers placed Mathis (knee) on injured reserve Saturday. Mathis suffered a torn ACL in practice Wednesday and will miss the duration of the 2025 season. He was a fourth-round pick by the Broncos in 2022 and appeared in 43 regular-season games with Denver the previous three seasons, making 18 starts.

  • Panthers' Damarri Mathis: Tears ACL

Head coach Dave Canales told reporters Friday that Mathis tore his ACL and will undergo surgery, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. The 26-year-old defensive back sustained a non-contact injury during Carolina's practice Wednesday that was later confirmed to be a torn ACL. Mathis, who was claimed from the Broncos in late August, posted three total tackles and one pass defended across 75 defensive snaps in 2024.

  • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Will play vs. New Orleans

Mathis (ankle) is active for Thursday night's game against the Saints, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Mathis was activated from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's game, and the 2022 fourth-round pick will indeed suit up for the contest. He'll bring some much-needed depth to the Broncos' secondary due to Patrick Surtain being sidelined with a concussion.

  • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Activated ahead of TNF

The Broncos have activated Mathis (ankle) from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's matchup with the Saints, Aric DiLalla of the team's official website reports. Mathis has not officially been cleared to play in Thursday's game, but his activation from IR is a positive sign regardless. With star cornerback Patrick Surtain (concussion) sidelined, Mathis' potential season debut would be quite timely.

  • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Full estimation Monday

Mathis (ankle) was listed as a full participant on Monday's practice estimation. Mathis has yet to see the field this season after sustaining an ankle injury in late August. However, the third-year cornerback was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, and Monday's full practice estimation suggests he's nearing a return to the field. Mathis could very well be activated to Denver's active roster in time for Thursday's matchup against the Saints, as the Broncos will likely be without star corner Patrick Surtain (concussion).

  • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Practice window opens

Mathis (ankle) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Mathis has missed the Broncos' first five games this season after sustaining an ankle injury during the team's preseason finale, but it appears he's nearing a return to the field. Denver will now have 21 days to activate Mathis to its active roster before he reverts to IR. Expect the third-year pro to serve as one of the Broncos' top reserve cornerbacks once he's fully past his ankle issue.

  • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Starting season on IR

Mathis (ankle) was placed on the Broncos' injured reserve list and designated to return Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. Mathis injured his ankle in Denver's preseason finale. His timeline for recovery is unclear, but he will not be eligible to return until Week 5. • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Exits game with ankle injury

Mathis is questionable to return to Sunday's preseason game against the Cardinals due to an ankle injury, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports. Mathis was injured on a tackle attempt when multiple players landed on his leg. He was checked out by trainers before being carted off the field. Mathis has been competing against Riley Moss during training camp for the second starting corner job opposite Patrick Surtain.

  • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Deemed questionable for Week 13

Mathis (back) is questionable to face the Texans on Sunday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. Mathis was added to Denver's practice report Thursday as a limited participant due to a back injury and didn't practice at all Friday. That doesn't bode well for his ability to play Sunday, though the Broncos haven't yet ruled him out. Mathis was a starter earlier this season but has been working in a depth role in recent weeks, as he hasn't logged more than 14 percent of the team's defensive snaps in any game since filling a near every-down role in Week 1 through Week 6.

  • Broncos' Damarri Mathis: Unavailable Week 18

Mathis (concussion) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers. Mathis will now miss his first matchup of the 2022-23 campaign due to the concussion he suffered versus Kansas City in Week 17. Patrick Surtain, K'Waun Williams and Essang Bassey should serve as Denver's top three cornerback options in the regular-season finale.
