Backing up raw production with great peripherals against the highest level of collegiate competition is noteworthy, as is an early breakout. Hunter's profile offers a lot to like. Sean McVay liked that profile, as he was a driving force in the Rams trading up to make the selection. Many film analysts can be cited as noticing Hunter's "stiff hips," and overall, his game does lack some creativity and fluidity that many top NFL backs display. He makes up for it with power and burst. The question will be how effectively he will be able to win in that way against the best of the best. Even if Hunter never becomes one of the league's premier backs, he offers a clear stylistic complement to Kyren Williams in a Rams backfield in need of an explosive play threat. He's a high-upside RB stash for the final rounds of your drafts.

Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Little running room Saturday
Rotowire
Hunter carried the ball seven times for 14 yards in Saturday's 19-17 preseason loss to the Browns.
The 2025 fourth-round pick got the start due to both Kyren Williams and Blake Corum being held out of the Rams' exhibition finale, and Hunter worked the team's first three drives before handing the backfield over to Cody Schrader. Hunter's role as the No. 3 RB seems secure, but the rookie is unlikely to see a lot of action in the regular season barring injuries ahead of him -- Corum, a third-round pick last year, saw only 65 touches over 17 games in his first NFL campaign.

Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Gets 11 carries in preseason win
Rotowire
Hunter rushed 11 times for 41 yards and wasn't targeted in Saturday's 31-21 preseason win over the Cowboys. He also had a 21-yard kickoff return.
Hunter returned the opening kickoff but didn't get his first touch on offense until the Rams' second drive. Both that possession and the first one were capped by Blake Corum touchdown runs, as Corum took advantage of the team sitting starter Kyren Williams. Hunter continued to play into the second half, and it looks like the rookie fourth-round pick is sitting firmly in third on the running depth chart behind Williams and Corum heading into the Rams' second preseason game against the Chargers on Aug. 16.

Rams' Jarquez Hunter: Added to Rams backfield
Rotowire
The Rams selected Hunter in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 117th overall.
Hunter began his first two seasons at Auburn as the backup to Tank Bigsby before claiming the lead role in 2023, rushing for 2,110 yards and 15 touchdowns on 346 carries over his final two seasons with the Tigers. Coming from a weightlifting background, Hunter doesn't lack for strength, and he projects as a downhill runner who can be difficult to bring down when he gets rolling. He joins an already young backfield that sports draft picks in each of the last few seasons at the top -- Kyren Williams (2022) as the starter and Blake Corum (2024) as the top backup -- and he'll likely fit in alongside Corum vying for reserve snaps behind Williams.
