Will Levis (Shoulder) Out For Year, Cam Ward Becomes Titans QB1

Player Outlook
Helm finished his combine testing in spite of a severely swollen and discolored ankle, so we have only his film to offer a true indication of his athleticism. There, you'll find numerous instances of Helm jumping over defenders and bailing out his quarterback with spectacular high-point catches. Fluid coordination for a player of any size -- let alone 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds -- appears clear as day in Helm's film. While sharing a depth chart with Ja'Tavion Sanders at Texas, it wasn't until Helm's fourth season that he broke out. He established himself as the most dependable target and ended up leading all WR/TE in receptions and avoided tackles as a receiver on his way to 786 yards and seven touchdowns. As a Titan, Helm will work in tandem with Chigoziem Okonkwo and just might again become a trusted target for his QB. The Titans have little proven pass-catching talent on the roster beyond Calvin Ridley. He is not worth drafting outside of the deepest leagues.

Fantasy News

  • Titans' Gunnar Helm: Quiet end to preseason

Helm did not record a catch on one target in Friday's 23-13 preseason win over the Vikings. Helm was on the field during two tight-end sets with Cameron Ward under center, a positive indication that he will have an immediate role in the Tennessee offense. However, he failed to make an impact in the box score, as his only target of the game came from Brandon Allen. Chig Okonkwo is likely to be Tennessee's primary tight end to begin the regular season, but Helm has seemingly risen up the depth chart quickly to begin his rookie year.

  • Titans' Gunnar Helm: Scores first preseason TD

Helm hauled in all four of his targets for 48 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 23-20 preseason win over the Falcons. The rookie tight end scored his first touchdown of the preseason when he took a 25-yard pass from backup QB Brandon Allen to the house. Helm has performed well through two preseason contests with five receptions for 64 yards, including Friday's touchdown. The fourth-round selection will look to finish the exhibition schedule off on a high note against Minnesota next Friday before opening the regular season as the Titans' No. 2 tight end.

  • Titans' Gunnar Helm: One catch in NFL debut

Helm caught one of two targets for 16 yards in Saturday's 29-7 preseason loss to the Buccaneers. Both of Helm's targets came from backup quarterback Brandon Allen in the third quarter. The rookie fourth-round pick out of Texas has already climbed to second on the tight end depth chart, but he's still clearly behind starter Chig Okonkwo. Helm will try to close that gap in Tennessee's next preseason game Friday against the Falcons.

  • Titans' Gunnar Helm: Listed second on depth chart

Helm is listed as the second tight end on the Titans' unofficial depth chart, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports. Helm, a fourth-round pick out of Texas, has already surpassed Josh Whyle on the depth chart and is immediately backing up Chig Okonkwo. Per Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site, the Titans' coaching staff has been impressed with Helm's ability to make contested catches early in his first training camp. Helm still may not see many offensive snaps his rookie season, as Tennessee could rely on two-tight-end sets less frequently after adding depth to the wide receiver corps this offseason.

  • Titans' Gunnar Helm: Lands with Tennessee

The Titans selected Helm in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 120th overall. Helm had solid production in his final two years with Texas, notably leading the team in receptions in 2024 despite battling for targets with the likes of Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond. His draft stock remained middling despite that production due to relatively poor athleticism and questions about his blocking. If Helm can improve the latter, he could find the field quickly for a Titans offense that is in need of offensive playmakers.
