Hofrichter (undisclosed) worked out with the Patriots on Thursday, Ben Volin of The Boston Globe reports.

Sterling Hofrichter: Cut from IR
The Falcons waived Hofrichter (undisclosed) from injured reserve Thursday, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
Hofrichter initially joined the Falcons as a seventh-round pick back in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he served as the team's punter as a rookie. He figured to compete for a similar role this season, but after he suffered an injury in early August, Atlanta has instead opted to part ways with Hofrichter.

Falcons' Sterling Hofrichter: Ready to rock
Hofrichter (hamstring) does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.

Falcons' Sterling Hofrichter: Misses Wednesday's session
Hofrichter (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Jason Butt of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The rookie punter from Syracuse has not yet missed a game in 2020, kicking to a 41.6 yards-per-punt average with a subpar 27.9 inside-20 percentage. Hofrichter also serves as the team's kickoff specialist, meaning the Falcons would have to form a contingency plan in that area as well if the 24-year-old proves unable to suit up Week 14 against the Chargers.

Falcons' Sterling Hofrichter: Path to starting role clear
Hofrichter is primed to serve as Atlanta's starting punter after the team parted ways with Ryan Allen on Sunday, William McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
One Atlanta Journal-Constitution beat writer insinuated that Allen never really had a shot at holding down the starting job, but Hofrichter's intended role for 2020 has seemingly been sealed with this transaction. After establishing a 43.9 yards-per-punt average for Syracuse during 2019, he'll now get his NFL career underway as a specialist for the Falcons. Hofrichter offers unique versatility and can be an emergency backup for Younghoe Koo, given that he has some experience place kicking from his time with the Orange.

Falcons' Sterling Hofrichter: Joining Atlanta
The Falcons selected Hofrichter in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 228th overall.
The Falcons have tinkered with their punting situation throughout much of the offseason, first cutting incumbent Ryan Allen before bringing him back, and then cutting Sam Irwin-Hill earlier Saturday. Look for the Syracuse punter to compete with Allen for the starting gig.
