Van Ginkel (neck) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Chargers, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports. Van Ginkel was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, but the 2019 fifth-rounder will miss a fourth consecutive game due to a neck injury, which puts Dallas Turner in line for another start at outside linebacker. Van Ginkel (neck) was listed as a limited participant on the Vikings' estimated practice report Monday, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports. Van Ginkel has missed the Vikings' last three games due to a neck injury. With Minnesota operating on a short week, the 2019 fifth-rounder will have less time to progress in his recovery ahead of Thursday's game against the Chargers. • Vikings' Andrew Van Ginkel: Out for Sunday

Van Ginkel (neck) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Browns. The Wisconsin product didn't practice all week after missing the Vikings' Week 4 loss to the Steelers due to a neck issue, so his absence Sunday comes as no surprise. Van Ginkel is a crucial part of Minnesota's defense, recording 79 total tackles, including 11.5 sacks, and six passes defended across 17 regular-season games in 2024. With the veteran edge rusher out, Dallas Turner is likely to start opposite Jonathan Greenard in Week 5.

  • Vikings' Andrew Van Ginkel: Won't practice ahead of Week 5

Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Tuesday that Van Ginkel (neck) won't practice this week, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports. With that in mind, Van Ginkel is safe to rule out for the Vikings' Week 5 tilt against the Browns on Sunday in London. The 2019 fifth-round pick has been limited to just two appearances thus far, and he played just eight defensive snaps during the Vikings' Week 3 win over the Bengals before exiting with the neck injury. The Vikings are on a bye Week 6, so the additional rest puts Van Ginkel in a spot to return for Minnesota's Week 7 clash against Philadelphia on Oct. 19. Dallas Turner played every single defensive snap during the Vikings' 24-21 loss to the Steelers on Sunday, and he'll continue to see a heavy dose of playing time for as long as Van Ginkel is out of action.

Van Ginkel played 91 percent of the defensive snaps in last Monday night's Week 1 win over the Bears, logging five tackles (three solo) and a pair of pass breakups. • Vikings' Andrew Van Ginkel: Logs full practice Thursday

Van Ginkel (neck) was a full participant in Thursday's practice. Van Ginkel was unable to practice for most of August due to an undisclosed injury, and it's unclear whether that is related to the neck issue that popped up on Thursday's injury report. Van Ginkel is coming off a career-best season in 2024, when he finished with 79 tackles (50 solo), including 11.5 sacks, two pick-sixes and one forced fumble across 17 regular-season games.

Van Ginkel finished the 2024 season with 79 tackles (50 solo), including 11.5 sacks, six pass breakups, including two interceptions, and one forced fumble across 17 regular-season contests. After playing for Vikings DC Brian Flores previously with the Dolphins, Van Ginkel signed a two-year, $20 million deal with Minnesota last offseason and answered with a career year. His 11.5 sacks tied T.J. Watt for eighth-most in the league and nearly doubled Van Ginkel's previous career best of 6.0 from 2023. Van Ginkel also returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns, leading the league in pick-sixes despite being an edge rusher. It all earned Van Ginkel his first Pro Bowl nomination and second-team All-Pro honors. Van Ginkel turns 30 years old in July and should again be a prominent playmaker off the edge for Minnesota next season.
