  • Bears' T.J. Edwards: Absent from practice Wednesday

Edwards (hand/hamstring) did not practice Wednesday. Edwards has battled injuries seemingly all season long, appearing in just five games, and he's left two of those with ailments. Edwards underwent surgery to repair a broken hand last week and missed Sunday's win over the Giants. Noah Sewell stepped in at linebacker in Edwards' absence and logged 100 percent of the defensive snaps.

  • Bears' T.J. Edwards: Undergoes surgery on broken hand

Head coach Ben Johnson told reporters Friday that Edwards had surgery on a broken hand and is still dealing with a hamstring injury, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Johnson added that Edwards will wear a cast on his broken hand but likely isn't a candidate to be placed on the injured reserve list. The Wisconsin product has appeared in just five contests this season, recording 31 total tackles and three passes defended. He's likely a longshot to play in the Week 10 matchup against the Giants, and Amen Ogbongbemiga could have an expanded role in the Bears' linebacker corps if Edwards is sidelined Sunday.

The linebacker was sidelined for three games earlier this season due to a hamstring issue and it's unclear if the new injury is related. Edwards will have two more chances to return to practice ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Giants.

  • Bears' T.J. Edwards: Gets in full practice Thursday

Edwards (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's practice. Coming out of Chicago's Week 5 bye, Edwards appears poised to return to the lineup after playing just 30 defensive snaps total across the first four games of the season. He should return to a full-time role in the middle of the Bears' defense.

Edwards (hamstring) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Lions. The 29-year-old upgraded from limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday to a full practice Friday, suggesting he's moved past his hamstring injury in time to face the Lions in Week 2. Edwards was one of the league's premier inside linebackers in 2024, recording 129 total tackles, including 4.0 sacks, and three passes defended over 17 appearances. It's unclear if his current hamstring injury is the same soft-tissue lower-body issue that forced him to miss time earlier in training camp. If healthy, Edwards is expected to handle a starting role in Chicago's linebacker corps Week 1.
