  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Makes little impact in Week 9

Chubb carried the ball 11 times for 34 yards in Sunday's 18-15 loss to the Broncos. The veteran split the backfield workload with rookie Woody Marks, and while Chubb led the Texans in rushing, it was still a tepid showing. The former Brown has yet to top 61 rushing yards in a game this season, and while he's gotten double-digit carries in six of eight contests, there have been very few flashes of his pre-injury form. Houston could lean more heavily on its ground game in Week 10 against the Jaguars, however, if C.J. Stroud (concussion) remains sidelined and Davis Mills is under center.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Outperformed by Marks in win

Chubb rushed 17 times for 56 yards and brought in both targets for 13 yards in the Texans' 26-15 win over the 49ers on Sunday. Chubb received six more carries than rookie backfield mate Woody Marks, but the latter outgained the veteran by six yards despite the lesser workload. Marks also stood out by doubling Chubb's reception total and gaining 36 more receiving yards, but head coach DeMeco Ryans appears intent on keeping Chubb involved as both a runner and receiver. Nevertheless, with a middling 4.0 yards-per-carry average, Chubb could eventually swap places in the backfield pecking order with Marks.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Struggles in loss Monday

Chubb rushed five times for 16 yards and caught one of three targets for a loss of five yards in Monday's 27-19 loss to Seattle. Head coach DeMeco Ryans proclaimed that he wanted to establish the run against the Seahawks, but he proceeded to give his veteran starter five carries in a game that was never quite out of reach. Chubb didn't do himself any favors, averaging a season-worst 3.2 yards per carry in the loss. Rookie Woody Marks (10-15-0) didn't fare much better on the ground, but he did catch C.J. Stroud's lone touchdown pass of the evening. Chubb had been providing a high floor for those in deeper formats prior to Sunday's dud, so it could be worth giving him another shot against San Francisco's injury-riddled defense Sunday.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: In line for busy Monday

Chubb could have a busy Week 7 against Seattle on Monday, if the Texans can establish the running game, as head coach DeMeco Ryans said earlier in the week, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. "When you can run the ball, you can sustain drives," Ryans said. "That's the key. That allows (offensive coordinator Nick) Caley to be able to open up the playbook and call whatever he's installed that particular week." Establishing the ground attack won't be easy against the Seahawks, who have allowed the second-fewest rushing yards per game (79.0 ypg). Chubb hasn't looked like the former All-Pro he once was in Cleveland, but he has been effective at times. And rookie Woody Marks has emerged as a potential playmaker out of the backfield. Chubb is coming off his best game of the season in Week 5, when he rushed for a season-high 61 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Ravens.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: RBs to Sit

The last time we saw Chubb was in Week 5 at Baltimore, and he ran well with 11 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown. He scored 12.1 PPR points, but I'm not expecting a repeat performance against Seattle. The Seahawks have struggled with pass-catching running backs this season, but Christian McCaffrey's 69 rushing yards in Week 1 is the best outing against Seattle this year. The Seahawks have also allowed just two rushing touchdowns on the season. Chubb is only worth using as a flex option in Week 7, with his value higher in non-PPR leagues.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Losing work to Marks

Chubb rushed the ball 13 times for 47 yards in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Titans. He added two receptions for 15 yards. Chubb was the first running back to get a touch for Houston, but he alternated drives with Woody Marks in the first half before the duo shared drives and split work evenly in the final two quarters. Chubb was effective for long stretches of the game, tallying six carries or receptions of at least six yards. However, he was out-touched by Marks for the first time this season and could continue to cede work as the season progresses, although the blowout nature of Sunday's contest may have contributed to the rookie seeing more volume.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Logs 12 touches in loss

Chubb rushed nine times for 38 yards and secured three of four targets for two yards in the Texans' 17-10 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday. Chubb saw a modest workload on the ground but still led the Texans in rush attempts on the afternoon. The veteran back has been solid in the early going now almost two years removed from his devastating early-season knee injury in 2023, with Chubb averaging 4.2 yards per carry and scoring a rushing TD on his 34 rush attempts to date. The veteran should continue to share early-down work with rookie Woody Marks during a Week 4 home matchup against the Titans next Sunday.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: RBs to Sit

Chubb was headed for an awful game in Week 2 against Tampa Bay before he scored on a 25-yard run late in the fourth quarter. Prior to that, he had 11 carries for 18 yards and two catches for 29 yards on two targets. In Week 1 at the Rams, Chubb had 13 carries for 60 yards and no catches on one target. We'll see if Woody Marks starts to get more work in Houston, and I would only use Chubb as a flex option in the majority of leagues in Week 3. Jacksonville has actually been solid against the run so far this season in holding Chuba Hubbard and Chase Brown to a combined 32 carries for 104 yards and no touchdowns. Hubbard found success in the passing game with three catches for 32 yards and a touchdown on five targets, but you can't expect that from Chubb against the Jaguars.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Leads backfield with 60 yards

Chubb took 13 carries for 60 yards while failing to bring in his only target in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams. Chubb was the Texans' lead back as expected Sunday, receiving 10 more carries than the next running back on the depth chart. The 29-year-old flashed glimpses of his former All-Pro form with a healthy average of 4.6 yards per carry. Catastrophic injuries derailed the end of Chubb's tenure with Cleveland, but a clean bill of health could result in a career renaissance with Houston. With Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) still without a timetable to return, Chubb is worth a look against the Buccaneers next Monday if he went overlooked in drafts.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Slated to open season as bell cow

The Texans envision Chubb serving as their "bell-cow running back" in Sunday's season opener versus the Rams, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) racked up 12 touchdowns and 1,325 yards in 12 games as the Texans' lead back in 2024, but he'll miss at least the first four contests of 2025 after being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Aug. 26. With Mixon out of the picture for at least the first quarter of the season, Chubb looks poised to have an extended runway to lead the Houston backfield. Chubb's final season in Cleveland was cut short by a foot fracture that he sustained Dec. 15, but he avoided surgery and has reportedly looked healthy and effective in training camp after joining Houston on a one-year deal in June. When available, Chubb has proven to be one of the NFL's most efficient runners, though he averaged a career-worst 3.3 yards per carry over his eight games in Cleveland a season ago. He could be in line for some improvement now that he's further removed from the major knee surgery he required in September 2023, and while he looks poised to dominate the early-down work out of the Houston backfield, Chubb has never been a major contributor in the passing game and could cede most of those reps to Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks or Dare Ogunbowale.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Encouraging effort in preseason win

Chubb rushed five times for 25 yards and brought in his only target for four yards in the Texans' 20-3 preseason win over the Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The first-team offense was out there for two drives Saturday, and Chubb utilized the opportunity to showcase encouraging form following consecutive injury-plagued seasons. The 2018 second-round pick of the Browns appeared to have more spring in his step than during his lackluster 2024 swan song in Cleveland, and with each passing day that Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) remains on the active/non-football injury list, Chubb appears likelier to open the regular season as the Texans' lead back while sharing the backfield with Dameon Pierce and rookie Woody Marks, at minimum.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Expected to play Saturday

Chubb (concussion), who handled the bulk of first-team reps during joint practices with the Panthers on Thursday, is expected to suit up for Saturday's preseason game against Carolina, Sam Warren of the Houston Chronicle reports. Chubb, who has now fully cleared the concussion protocol, has handled the bulk of first-team reps throughout training camp with Joe Mixon (lower leg) still on the active/non-football injury list. He's split those reps with Dameon Pierce, who was held out of Thursday's joint practice and appears on track to get a rest day Saturday. Chubb made a handful of explosive plays at practice Thursday, an encouraging development given that he's coming off back-to-back season-ending injuries. A strong showing versus Carolina would boost Chubb's standing in Houston's backfield, wherein he, Pierce, and rookie fourth-round pick Woody Marks are all working to make their case for the Week 1 starting gig in the event that Mixon isn't ready to go.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Sheds non-contact jersey

Chubb (concussion) practiced without a non-contact jersey Tuesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. This means Chubb has either made it through the concussion protocol or is in the final stage. He hit his head during practice last Tuesday and missed the next few days, but he returned Monday as a limited participant and now seems ready for full participation. With Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) uncertain for the start of the season, Chubb is competing with Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale and Woody Marks for backfield roles.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Back at practice Monday

Chubb (concussion) returned to practice Monday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. The report notes that Chubb, who went through the NFL's concussion protocol after taking a hard hit to the head this past Tuesday, sported a red non-contact jersey in his return to practice. Assuming no setbacks, the veteran running could see some snaps in Saturday's preseason game against the Panthers. Chubb's return to the mix is of particular import to the Texans, given that incumbent starting RB Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) remains sidelined.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Not slated to play Saturday

Chubb (head) is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Chubb missed a couple of practices after taking a hard hit to the head Tuesday, but he may have been rested anyway Saturday, with the Texans holding a number of other key players out. Also not in line to see action against Minnesota are QB C.J. Stroud, RB Dameon Pierce and TE Dalton Schultz.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Inks one-year deal with Texans

Chubb and the Texans officially agreed to a one-year contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Chubb's 2023 campaign was cut short by ACL, MCL and meniscus tears in his left knee, and upon his return Week 7 of last season, he topped out at 59 rushing yards among his eight appearances before suffering a fracture in his left foot Week 15, ending the year on injured reserve. Prior to those injuries, he had put together four straight 1,000-yard seasons on the ground for the Browns, but with Joe Mixon entrenched as Houston's top running back for 2025, Chubb likely will be relegated to a complementary role while potentially competing for reps with Dameon Pierce and rookie fourth-rounder Woody Marks, considering Chubb's deal has a base salary of $2.5 million.

  • Texans' Nick Chubb: Expected to join Houston

The Texans plan to sign Chubb on Monday pending a successful physical, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Chubb suffered a season-ending foot fracture in mid-December, and he became a free agent after his contract with the Browns officially expired in March. The 29-year-old did not undergo surgery this offseason, so Monday's physical will provide some important clarity as the Texans look to bolster their rushing game. Chubb also missed the first six games last season while recovering from a torn left ACL suffered in September 2023. The four-time Pro Bowler's production plummeted last season with the least efficient campaign of his career, logging 102 carries for 332 yards and three touchdowns. He's now set to join a running back room headlined by another notable veteran in Joe Mixon, who tallied 245 carries for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns during his first season in Houston in 2024. The Texans have last year's No. 2 running back Dameon Pierce along with rookie fourth-rounder Woody Marks on the roster as well. Given the wear and tear Chubb has sustained over the last couple of year and pending a successful physical, he'll likely vie with Pierce for a role as the primary backup behind Mixon this coming season.

  • Nick Chubb: Door closed on Browns reunion?

Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry said Friday that the possibility of re-signing Chubb (foot) is "increasingly unlikely" after the team added two running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN reports. Berry said he's "never going to rule out [Chubb]" and that he "would expect him to take another step being a year removed from the knee injury," but he made clear that "a return is less likely, at least in the short term, with us right now." In his statement, Berry specifically noted rookies Quinshon Judkins (a second-round pick) and Dylan Sampson (fourth round), as well as incumbent veteran Jerome Ford, as reasons a reunion with Chubb is currently off the table. Just as notably, Berry said that Chubb is fully recovered from the broken foot that forced him to miss the final three games of 2024. The 29-year-old running back struggled in his return from a left ACL tear last season, averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry across eight appearances before landing on IR in Week 15 due to his foot fracture. He'll work to regain some of his prior explosiveness and find a new opportunity to compete this offseason.

  • Browns' Nick Chubb: Moves to IR, out for season

The Browns placed Chubb (foot) on injured reserve Wednesday. While Chubb isn't expected to require surgery to repair the left foot he fractured in this past Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, the injury will keep him sidelined for the final three games of the season. Jerome Ford is expected to step in as the Browns' lead back in place of Chubb, whose future in Cleveland is uncertain. The four-time Pro Bowler is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring, and while Chubb has said that he would like to finish his career in Cleveland, it's unclear if the organization feels the same. After sustaining a significant left knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, Chubb didn't make his 2024 debut until Week 7 and lacked his usual explosiveness as a runner. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry -- by far a career-low mark -- and scored four touchdowns over his eight appearances before going down with the fractured foot.

  • Browns' Nick Chubb: Leaves Sunday's game

Chubb won't return to Sunday's game against the Chiefs due to a foot injury. Before being forced out of the contest, Chubb carried nine times for 41 yards. While Chubb is sidelined, Jerome Ford is next in line for the Browns' Week 15 carries.
