Jones spent most of last season on the Bears' practice squad but was called up in November when the team was in need of depth at linebacker. Assuming he passes through waivers unclaimed, he may get another chance elsewhere in an offseason program.

Jones was promoted to the active roster last week, but he could now find himself back on the practice squad as long as he clears waivers. The linebacker played eight snaps against the Buccaneers last Sunday.

Jones knee injury is considered season-ending and he'll be placed on IR in the coming days, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Jones injured his knee against Atlanta on Thursday and was seen on crutches and donning a knee brace Friday. He's yet to be placed on IR, but he likely will be prior to Sunday's game to clear a roster spot. He'll finish the season with three tackles and a fumble recovery.

Buccaneers' Howard Jones: Returns fumble for touchdown in Week 7
Jones totaled three tackles (two solo) and returned a Kirk Cousins fumble for a touchdown in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Redskins.
The 25-year-old seems to have a knack for making his presence felt in limited playing time. After notching two sacks in his first career game Oct. 11 against the Jaguars, Jones took it up a notch in Week 7, picking up a second-quarter Kirk Cousins fumble caused by teammate Jacquies Smith and rumbling 43 yards to the end zone. If he can continue making impact plays, Jones figures to receive an increasing amount of playing time in the Bucs' defensive line rotation over the coming weeks.
