Southward signed a reserve/future contract with the Panthers on Monday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Southward spent the 2017 season on the Panthers' practice squad and also had a brief 10-day stint on the 53-man roster. The 27-year-old hasn't seen consistent game action since his rookie campaign with the Falcons in 2014.

Southward was let go in order for the team to increase their depth at quarterback. He was just promoted to the active roster last week and will now presumably revert back to the Panthers' practice squad.

Panthers' Dezmen Southward: Earns promotion
Southward was promoted from the practice squad Friday.
After Daeshon Hall (knee) was sent to injured reserve, a roster spot opened up. Since safeties Demetrious Cox (ankle) and Kurt Coleman (knee) are listed as out for Sunday's game against the Lions, bringing up a safety was an easy choice. Southward will slot in as the No. 4 safety and likely won't see many defensive snaps, if any, but he'll be deployed in special teams situations.
