Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Named starter for Week 9
Rotowire
Brissett has been named the Cardinals' starter for Monday's game against the Cowboys, as Kyler Murray continues to rehab from a foot sprain, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Brissett was the Cardinals' starter for the two games prior to the Week 8 bye, and over those two contests he completed 65.0 percent of his passes for 599 yards, four touchdowns and one interception while turning nine carries into 45 yards. The veteran quarterback took most of the first-team reps in practice while Murray was limited, and head coach Jonathan Gannon has opted to go with Brissett as the starter for a third consecutive game, though Murray could have a role as the backup if he's active for Week 9.
Brissett took most of the first-team snaps during the media-access portion of practice Friday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
The implication is that Brissett is preparing for a third straight start in place of Kyler Murray (foot), although gamesmanship by coach Jonathan Gannon can't be ruled out at this point. Whatever the case, it's a tough situation for fantasy managers with the Cardinals facing the Cowboys on Monday Night Football this week. Gannon said Thursday that he was preparing Murray to start, while reports from Thursday's practice suggested Murray mostly worked with backups (the same thing was reported Friday).

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Tosses two TDs in Week 7 start
Rotowire
Brissett completed 25 of 36 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Packers. He added 26 rushing yards on six carries and lost a fumble.
Making his second straight start in place of Kyler Murray (foot), Brissett had another productive performance as he connected with Trey McBride for a 15-yard score in the second quarter and a 12-yard strike in the third. The veteran QB has thrown for 599 yards in place of Murray -- the best two-game stretch of his career -- with a 4:1 TD:INT, but with Arizona on bye in Week 8, Brissett may be returning to the bench for a Week 9 tilt against the Cowboys' porous defense.

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Slated to start vs. Green Bay
Rotowire
The Cardinals are planning to start Brissett against the Packers on Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The Cardinals are on a bye Week 8, and it appears they will give Kyler Murray additional time to heal from a mid-foot sprain and target a potential return for Week 9 against the Cowboys on Monday, Nov. 3. That puts Brissett in line for a second-straight start while Kedon Slovis serves as the backup quarterback. Brissett played well during Arizona's Week 6 loss to Indianapolis, with the veteran quarterback completing 27 of 44 passes (61.4 percent) for 320 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while adding 19 rushing yards on three carries.

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Week 7 Waiver Priority List
Rotowire
Brissett scored 24.7 Fantasy points in Week 6 at Indianapolis with Kyler Murray (foot) out, and we'll see if Brissett starts again in Week 7 against Green Bay. He should be added in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for at least 15 percent of your remaining FAB. Just keep in mind that Murray hasn't been ruled out yet for Week 7, and the Cardinals have a bye in Week 8. That said, Brissett could be a starter in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues since the Packers have allowed Dak Prescott and Joe Flacco to each score at least 22.8 Fantasy points in the past two games.

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Strong showing in emergency start
Rotowire
Brissett completed 27 of 44 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding three rushes for 19 yards in the Cardinals' 31-27 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
Brissett was called on for the first of what could be multiple starts due to Kyler Murray's foot injury, and the veteran signal-caller delivered in signature fashion. Brissett started slowly but picked up steam despite losing Marvin Harrison to a concussion, leaning heavily on Zay Jones, Trey McBride and Michael Wilson throughout the afternoon. The veteran signal-caller hit McBride and Greg Dortch from one and 12 yards out, respectively for his pair of touchdowns, and he had Arizona in position to take the lead after marching his team 78 yards in 10 plays before a fourth-down incompletion on a play where there may have been some pass interference on McBride. Murray could remain out for a Week 7 home matchup against the Packers, a development that would tee up Brissett for another start

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Getting start in place of Murray
Rotowire
Brissett is starting Sunday's game at Indianapolis with Kyler Murray (foot) inactive, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Brissett has been preparing to lead the Cardinals offense Week 6 due to Murray's foot injury, which was described as a mid-foot sprain by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Saturday evening that may require more than one week on the sideline. With Murray confirmed to be out this Sunday, Brissett will earn a start for the fifth different team in his 10-year career. He went 1-4 last season as a member of the Patriots, when he completed 79 of 135 passes (58.5 percent) for 696 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, had 12 carries for 51 yards and no TDs and fumbled three times (one lost) in those nods.

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Expected to get starting nod Sunday
Rotowire
Brissett is likely to start at quarterback for the Cardinals against the Colts on Sunday, as Kyler Murray (foot) remains listed as questionable but is expected to be inactive for the contest, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Murray's foot injury is a "version of a Lisfranc injury" and could keep him out of action for more than one week. Arizona hasn't yet officially ruled out Murray for Sunday's matchup, but Brissett looks in line to serve as the club's starter against the Colts, with whom he played four seasons from 2017 through 2020. Brissett has taken just four offensive snaps and thrown just one pass this season, but he has ample NFL experience and completed 95 of 161 pass attempts for 826 yards and two touchdowns along with one interception as a member of the Patriots in 2024. He also rushed 15 times for 62 yards.

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Sharp in preseason loss
Rotowire
Brissett completed six of eight passes for 57 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Cardinals' 27-7 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night. He also rushed once for two yards.
Brissett and the Cardinals' offense started slowly with a five-play drive that culminated in a punt, but the second possession was a different story. The veteran signal-caller helmed an 11-play, 67-yard march he capped off with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Simi Fehoko and in which he recorded five completions overall. Brissett had 12- and 17-yard connections with Andre Baccellia and Xavier Weaver during the drive, and he was done for the night following the scoring toss. Brissett is firmly entrenched as Kyler Murray's primary backup as the regular season approaches.

Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett: Going to Arizona
Rotowire
Brissett is slated to sign a contract with the Cardinals, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Brissett's arrival in Arizona will mark his sixth different organization as he prepares for the 10th campaign of his career. Overall, he's made 53 starts in 87 appearances, including five of eight in his second stint with the Patriots last season. Brissett will slot into the backup QB role behind starter Kyler Murray while Clayton Tune slides to No. 3 on the depth chart.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Leads comeback win in relief
Rotowire
Brissett completed 15 of 24 passes for 132 yards, without a touchdown or interception, after replacing Drake Maye (concussion) in the first half of Sunday's 25-22 win over the Jets. Brissett added three rushing attempts for 11 yards and threw a two-point conversion.
Brissett led the Patriots to an upset win with a pair of second-half touchdown drives, both of which were capped by Rhamondre Stevenson touchdown runs. The veteran quarterback threw a two-point conversion to Stevenson after the running back's second rushing score, which came with 22 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Brissett started New England's first five games but has only two touchdown passes this season, so he won't be an appealing fantasy option if Maye is unable to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol before the Patriots head to Tennessee for a Week 9 matchup that could have significant implications near the top of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Could lose starting role
Rotowire
Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was non-committal Monday when asked if Brissett would retain the starting quarterback job heading into Sunday's game against the Texans, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports. "All positions are always being evaluated. We haven't had our full staff meeting. That's a conversation, not only at [the quarterback] spot but all the spots, of how to get better as a football team," Mayo said, when asked if Brissett gives the team the best chance to win.
The Patriots have limped to a 1-4 start to the season while Brissett has completed just 58.5 percent of his passes for 5.2 yards per attempt and a 2:1 TD:INT through his five starts. While shoddy play from the offensive line and below-average talent at the skill positions hasn't helped him, Brissett enjoyed a relatively clean pocket in this past Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Dolphins and still misfired on several key throws that could have made a difference. Mayo and his staff will take Brissett's body of work through the first five weeks into consideration before deciding whether to stick with the 31-year-old journeyman as the team's starter or turn the offense over to 2024 third overall pick Drake Maye.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Can't pull off comeback Sunday
Rotowire
Brissett completed 18 of 34 passes for 160 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and added a 10-yard rush on his only carry in the Patriots' 15-10 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
Brissett put together another middling passing performance overall, mustering his fifth straight sub-170-yard tally to open the campaign. Brissett also failed to throw a touchdown for the third time in five contests, although he did see what could have been a game-winning scoring strike to Ja'Lynn Polk reversed on replay when it was ruled the receiver did not bring down his heel inbounds. Head coach Jerod Mayo appears steadfast in his commitment to not expose rookie Drake Maye too early considering his team's offensive-line issues, so Brissett appears likely to start a Week 6 home matchup against the Texans.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Commits two turnovers in loss
Rotowire
Brissett completed 19 of 32 pass attempts for 168 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding three rushing yards and a lost fumble on two carries in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the 49ers.
Brissett earned head coach Jerod Mayo's vote of confidence prior to Sunday's lopsided loss, but three fumbles (one lost) and a pick-six might have the veteran back on the hot seat. The two-time Patriot has provided just two touchdowns against two turnovers through four starts with the club that initially drafted him in 2016. Even if Brissett remains the starter for a 1-3 New England squad, he doesn't inspire confidence as a fantasy option against the Dolphins in Week 5.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Remains starting QB
Rotowire
Speaking to the media Friday, coach Jerod Mayo said Brissett will remain New England's starting quarterback, Mark Daniels of MassLive.com reports.
After going 12-for-18 passing for 98 scoreless yards and failing to lead a touchdown drive, Brissett was pulled from Thursday night's eventual loss to the Jets late in the fourth quarter with the team down 24-3. First-round rookie Drake Maye played the final 4:24 of the game and went 4-for-8 for 22 yards. After Brissett absorbed five sacks, Maye took another two. Neither quarterback stands much of a chance behind New England's bottom-barrel offensive line that was missing a pair of starters versus New York. Brissett sounds like he'll be under center for Week 4 against San Francisco.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Benched late in Week 3 loss
Rotowire
Brissett completed 12 of 18 passes for 98 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Patriots' 24-3 loss to the Jets on Thursday night. He was replaced by Drake Maye with 4:24 remaining in the game.
Brissett's final numbers, which also included five sacks taken, tell the tale of how difficult a night it was for the Patriots offense. The veteran signal-caller hasn't averaged more than 5.5 yards per attempt in any of his first three contests, but due to the fact New England's Week 4 matchup on Sunday, Sept. 29 involves a visit to the 49ers, Brissett could get the call over the inexperienced Maye for that daunting assignment.
Brissett completed 15 of 27 passes for 149 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Seahawks. He added two rushes for six yards.
The Patriots have relied upon Rhamondre Stevenson heavily in the first two games, limiting Brissett to a combined 51 attempts. Brissett was effective when called upon Sunday, however, and showed strong rapport with Hunter Henry in the short areas of the field. He also recorded his first touchdown of the season on a five-yard connection with Ja'Lynn Polk. Due to limited volume and a conservative game plan, Brissett isn't well-suited for fantasy production, but he's proven capable of running a competent offense early in the campaign.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Injury not serious
Rotowire
Coach Jerod Mayo downplayed Brissett's shoulder injury after a 20-10 preseason loss to Washington on Sunday, saying the QB "would have been able to continue" if it had been a regular-season game, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Brissett played two more snaps -- and threw a pair of accurate passes -- after hurting his right throwing shoulder when a defender landed on top of him during a sack on the sixth play of the game. Drake Maye came in for the next drive, which Mayo said was the plan beforehand anyway. The rookie then completed 13 of 20 passes for 126 yards and a TD, adding three carries for 17 yards while leading New England to seven points and a missed field goal across five drives. Mayo acknowledged Monday that Maye outplayed Brissett the past few weeks, but the coach also hinted at some hesitancy to start the rookie Week 1, saying, "We've all seen the horror stories of rookie QBs getting thrown to the wolves," per Chad Graff of The Athletic. The Patriots likely will name a starter at some point this week.

Patriots' Jacoby Brissett: Struggles in preseason start
Rotowire
Brissett started Thursday's 14-13 preseason loss to the Eagles and completed three of seven passes for 17 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
Brissett played the first three drives before giving way to Drake Maye, who led the offense to a field goal on his first possession and added a rushing touchdown later in the second quarter. While Maye is still adjusting to the NFL after being drafted third overall in 2024, it was Brissett who made a rookie mistake on the Patriots' second drive, throwing an interception in the end zone. Brissett's edge in experience (48 regular-season starts) is the reason that he's favored to be New England's Week 1 starter, but he hasn't bolstered his case by completing only three of 10 passes through two preseason games, so the veteran quarterback may still have something to prove in the team's preseason finale against Washington on Aug. 25.
Brissett has taken all the first-team reps during open practices, Chad Graff of The Athletic reports.
Third overall pick Drake Maye presumably will have a chance to win the Week 1 starting job, but he may have to wait until training camp to get any reps with the first-team offense. Graff notes that Brissett runs the offense smoothly, having previously worked with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt when both were with the Browns in 2022.
