His hand is still in a cast to protect the healing digit, but Gachkar will at least have a couple of weeks to get his game legs under him. Gachkar is in the mix to start at middle linebacker while Rolando McClain serves his 10-game suspension, Dallas Morning News reports.
Anthony Hitchens, who started nine games last season, is the favorite to win the job and ultra-athletic second-year LB Mark Nzeocha could also factor in with a big camp, but Gachkar received most of the first-team reps at middle linebacker in OTAs and minicamp. The veteran was primarily used on special teams last year, but at the very least should see an increase in defensive snaps in 2016.
