  • Rays' Taitn Gray: Overcomes elbow surgery

Single-A Charleston activated Gray (elbow) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Gray wound up missing nearly two months due to midseason elbow surgery but has completed a two-week rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. The 18-year-old was taking the minor leagues by storm before going down, as he's slashing .275/.394/.456 with six home runs, three doubles, four triples, 30 RBI and four stolen bases over 198 plate appearances for Charleston.

  • Rays' Taitn Gray: Embarks on rehab assignment

Gray, who had surgery to remove a bone chip in his right elbow, has gone 1-for-8 through three rehab games in the Florida Complex League.

Per Ian Cundall of Baseball America, Gray should be back in action for Single-A Charleston before the end of the month. Prior to the midseason surgery, Gray slashed .286/.406/.474 with six home runs, four steals, a 21.9 percent strikeout rate and a 16.1 percent walk rate in 49 games. He received just under $1 million when the Rays selected him in the third round in 2025 and won't turn 19 until mid-August.

  • Rays' Taitn Gray: Shelved at Single-A

Single-A Charleston placed Gray on its 7-day injured list June 1 due to an unspecified issue.

Gray's move to the IL temporarily halts what's been a magnificent first season in the professional ranks for the 18-year-old, who has settled in at first base after being listed as a catcher when he was selected in the third round of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft. Prior to hitting the shelf, Gray produced a .286/.406/.474 slash line with a 16.8 percent walk rate and 21.9 percent strikeout rate over 192 plate appearances with Charleston.

  • Rays' Taitn Gray: Historic start to career

Gray is slashing .370/.472/.704 with two home runs, a 16.7 percent walk rate and a 19.4 percent strikeout rate through eight games for Single-A Charleston.

A 6-foot-4, 220-pound 18-year-old whose defensive home was uncertain when the Rays selected him with the 86th overall pick last year, Gray has played first base and designated hitter for the RiverDogs. He is the youngest player to post a 1.176 OPS or higher through his team's first eight games since Juan Soto in 2017, and it's clear Gray has mammoth power potential long term.
