  • Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Yields five runs in loss

Gilbert (0-1) took the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings.

Gilbert retired the first two batters he faced Tuesday, but three straight Yankees hits resulted in a pair of first-inning runs. The right-hander proceeded through the next four frames without falling further behind, but he imploded in the sixth, allowing four of the five batters he faced in that inning to reach base (on two doubles, a single and a walk) before being pulled. Overall, Gilbert threw just 54 of 95 pitches for strikes, and his three walks tied the most he recorded in any game last season. Gilbert did rack up 14 whiffs and now has 13 punchouts across 10.2 innings on the campaign, but he's also carrying a 6.75 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through two starts.

  • Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Fans seven in no-decision

Gilbert allowed three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Thursday.

Gilbert gave up a solo homer to the second batter he faced in the game (Chase DeLauter), but he was able to get through four frames with only that tally on his line. However, he served up two more runs in the fifth inning and was pulled after retiring the only batter he faced in the sixth. Gilbert didn't get the win, but he did show good strikeout stuff with 12 whiffs and seven punchouts. The right-hander posted a career-best 11.9 K/9 during the 2025 regular season and could be among the AL's strikeout leaders if he's able to stay healthy throughout the current campaign.

  • Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Named Opening Day starter

Gilbert will start the Mariners' March 26 season opener versus the Guardians in Seattle, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Gilbert is receiving his second consecutive Opening Day nod after he notched a 3.44 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 173:31 K:BB during the 2025 regular season. He started off 2025 hot with a 2.37 ERA across his first six starts but left his sixth start early due to a right elbow flexor strain that kept him out over a month. The 2024 All-Star struggled in some starts after returning in mid-June with a 4.55 ERA between then and Aug. 18. The righty was able to lock in down the stretch with a 2.52 ERA and 0.97 WHIP across his final seven regular-season starts in 2025.
