Wilkinson (0-3) took the loss against the Mets on Friday, allowing seven runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts over three innings.
Six of the seven runs off Wilkinson came via the long ball, and he threw just 36 of 62 pitches for strikes with only three whiffs. The southpaw logged a quality start Saturday but has managed just 8.2 innings over his other three major-league outings since debuting Aug. 19. He'll take a 6.14 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB across 14.2 innings with the Giants into a home matchup with the Cardinals next week.

Despite taking a loss and dropping to 0-2 through his three big-league starts, Wilkinson turned in a credible performance, striking out four batters over six innings while limiting Arizona to two earned runs on three hits and two walks. Even with San Francisco paring its active roster back to 26 men following the doubleheader, Wilkinson will stick around with the big club after reliever Sam Hentges (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. The rookie left-hander could be called upon to make another start during the Giants' series with the Mets at Citi Field during the upcoming weekend.

Affectionately nicknamed "Tugboat" due to his 6-foot-1, 270-pound frame, Wilkinson hasn't lost a step after getting promoted to the Captains on May 21. It's a bit telling that he hasn't been promoted to Double-A after dominating the Midwest League for a few months. Wilkinson projects as an innings-eating southpaw whose stuff plays much better in the lower levels than it will against upper-level and big-league hitters. The 21-year-old lacks a true plus offering and his fastball tops out at 93 mph and sometimes sits in the upper-80s.
