Guardians' Justin Campbell: Injured before first Triple-A start
Campbell suffered a left oblique injury Wednesday while warming up prior to what was scheduled to be his first start with Triple-A Columbus, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Campbell recently earned a promotion after collecting a 2.61 ERA and 66:27 K:BB over 51.2 innings covering 15 starts between Single-A Lake County and Double-A Akron. He is still being evaluated, so there's no word yet regarding how much time he'll miss. The No. 37 overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, Campbell didn't make his pro debut until this season due to a pair of elbow surgeries and a wrist operation.

Guardians' Justin Campbell: Moves up to Double-A
The Guardians promoted Campbell from High-A Lake County to Double-A Akron on Sunday.
The No. 37 overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, Campbell didn't make his professional debut until April after requiring nerve decompression surgery on his right elbow in May 2023, Tommy John surgery in April 2024 and right wrist surgery in October 2024. Despite the lengthy layoff from pitching, Campbell performed effectively at High-A to begin the season, earning the promotion after producing a 2.40 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB In 15 innings over his six starts.

Guardians' Justin Campbell: Eyeing July for pro debut
Campbell (elbow/wrist) appears on track to begin pitching in games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League during the first week of July, SI.com reports.
The No. 37 overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, Campbell has been snakebitten on the health front since being selected and is still waiting to make his professional debut. After previously undergoing nerve decompression surgery on his right elbow in May 2023, Campbell then required Tommy John surgery on the same elbow last April. Additionally, Campbell had another procedure Oct. 1 of last year, when he underwent surgery to address De Quervain tenosynovitis on his right wrist. Campbell looks to be making good progress in his rehab program for the elbow and wrist issues, but given his long layoff, it's fair to expect some rust once he eventually makes his debut in Arizona.

Guardians' Justin Campbell: Recovering from another surgery
Campbell (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery in the spring and won't make his pro debut until at least mid-2025, according to J.J. Cooper of Baseball America.
The Guardians discovered early in spring training that Campbell would need Tommy John surgery. Campbell was on his way back from ulnar transposition surgery in the same elbow and has not yet pitched in a pro game since the Guardians selected him with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft.

Guardians' Justin Campbell: Out for season
The Guardians' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate placed Campbell (elbow) on its full-season injured list.
Since being selected by the Guardians with the 37th overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, Campbell has yet to make his professional debut. He looks like he'll have to wait until at least the 2025 season to do so, as the Guardians are already discounting the possibility of the right-hander toeing the rubber in 2024. Campbell underwent ulnar nerve decompression surgery on his right elbow on May 23, 2023 and had been expected to pitch in 2024, but he may have suffered a setback at some point over the last few months.

Guardians' Justin Campbell: Could return this season
Campbell had right elbow surgery and could return in a couple months, Baseball America reports.
He was held back in extended spring training to start the year because of an elbow injury, and it's unclear when he had the surgery, but it evidently wasn't Tommy John surgery, given his reported timeline. Campbell was an exciting pitching prospect entering the 2022 draft, but he has not pitched in official games since the Guardians selected him with the 37th overall pick.

Guardians' Justin Campbell: Dealing with elbow injury
Campbell is being held back in extended spring training as he deals with an elbow injury, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
Callis says Cleveland is hopeful to get Campbell back during the first half of the season, so it sounds like this will require months, not weeks. According to Guardians Prospective, it is ulnar neuritis in his right elbow. A 6-foot-7 righty who combines quality stuff with deception, Campbell has a chance to really improve his stock if he can get healthy. He hasn't pitched professionally since Cleveland selected him with the 37th overall pick last year.
