Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Records first save
Whitlock picked up the save in Monday's 6-3 victory over Washington. He allowed a hit and no walks while striking out two over a scoreless inning.
With Aroldis Chapman unavailable after pitching in each of the previous two days, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com, Whitlock was called upon in the ninth inning and got the job done to secure his first save of the season. Since returning June 9 from a stint on the injured list due to left knee inflammation, the right-hander has allowed one run across eight innings with a 7:0 K:BB. Overall, Whitlock owns a 2.60 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 32:6 K:BB across 27.2 innings while serving as one of Boston's highest-leverage relievers, though he isn't likely to see regular save opportunities while Chapman is in the picture.

Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Holds lead Saturday
Whitlock earned a hold Saturday, retiring all three batters faced on seven pitches (five strikes) in the eighth inning of a 4-1 win over the Yankees.
Whitlock was the bridge to Aroldis Chapman, recording his third hold in his last four appearances and 12th of the season. Since returning from the injured list June 9, Whitlock has allowed one run on six hits with zero walks while striking out five over seven innings. Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Impressive in loss
Whitlock threw a perfect inning while striking out one batter in a 9-6 loss against Minnesota on Monday.
Whitlock appeared in four games this spring for Boston, allowing zero earned runs in four innings pitched. The right-hander also made four appearances for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, allowing just one earned run in 3.1 innings. The 29-year-old posted a career-best 31 percent strikeout rate while putting up a 2.25 ERA for Boston in 2025.
