Narvaez started five of the previous six games, but he went 0-for-12 with a walk during that span to bring his season-long slash line down to .165/.241/.236 over 242 plate appearances. The Orioles will likely have Samuel Basallo split time between catcher and designated hitter down the stretch, so Narvaez is headed for a reduction in playing time after initially being the top option behind the plate following the Adley Rutschman trade.

Though he had faded into a timeshare behind the plate in Boston with Connor Wong, Narvaez should settle in as the new No. 1 backstop for the Orioles, at least until Samuel Basallo (shoulder) makes his return from the injured list. Narvaez delivered a serviceable .725 OPS with 15 home runs over 118 games in his first full big-league campaign in 2025, but he's seen both his power and contact rate tail off dramatically in 2026. The 27-year-old slashed just .187/.260/.275 with a .088 ISO and 33.5 percent strikeout rate over 197 plate appearances with Boston this season.
Narvaez is not in the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Orioles.
It marks the third straight game that Narvaez has been on the bench in favor of Connor Wong. Narvaez should be back behind the dish for the nightcap.
