Yankees' Kervin Castro: Shifted to 60-day injured list
The Yankees transferred Castro (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL.
The transaction frees a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Michael Fulmer, who signed a one-year contract. Castro hit the shelf in mid-August due to right elbow neuritis, and Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports that the 27-year-old is scheduled to meet with Dr. Keith Meister in the near future to determine whether surgery is necessary to address the injury. Even if Castro is able to avoid a procedure, his move to the 60-day IL officially ends his season.

The Yankees placed Castro on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Monday, with right elbow neuritis.
In a corresponding move Tuesday, the Yankees recalled Bradley Hanner from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Castro had made three appearances since getting recalled Aug. 3. In that stretch, he allowed no runs on one hit and a 4:2 K:BB across 3.2 innings.

The Tigers announced Wednesday that Castro recently underwent Tommy John surgery to address a right elbow sprain, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The Tommy John procedure is the second of Castro's career, as he previously had the surgery in 2017. After failing to win a spot in the Tigers' Opening Day bullpen, Castro began the 2023 campaign at Triple-a Toledo and made nine appearances before being placed on the affiliate's 7-day injured list with a previously undisclosed injury. He was later moved to the 60-day IL and is now likely to be facing a 12-to-14-month recovery after undergoing the reconstructive revision surgery on his UCL.
