Top Brendan Beck News

  • Yankees' Brendan Beck: Ineffective in long relief

Beck didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out one.

The 27-year-old right-hander made his major-league debut, serving as New York's bulk reliever behind opener Paul Blackburn on Thursday. Beck wasn't all that effective, however, recording just three whiffs and tossing only 28 of his 52 pitches for strikes. Ryan Weathers was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday due to an illness, so Beck may have been making just a spot appearance for the Yankees and could soon rejoin Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

  • Yankees' Brendan Beck: Optioned to SWB

The Yankees optioned Beck to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Thursday's win over the Rangers.

Beck made his MLB debut Thursday, giving up two earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one batter over three innings in bulk relief. With Carlos Rodon (elbow) and Ryan Weathers (illness) both set to return within the next few days, the Yankees don't have any more gaps in the rotation to fill, so Beck will return to Triple-A and continue working as organizational depth.

  • Yankees' Brendan Beck: Contract selected

The Yankees selected Beck's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Beck has made seven starts with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, collecting a 5.11 ERA and 37:8 K:BB over 37 innings. The 27-year-old has been used as a starting pitcher almost exclusively throughout the minors, but he will be broken in as a long reliever at the major-league level.

  • Yankees' Brendan Beck: Making full-season debut at High-A

Single-A Tampa reinstated Beck (elbow) from its 60-day injured list Wednesday and assigned him to High-A Hudson Valley.

After completing his recovery from September 2021 Tommy John surgery, Beck made his professional debut last week in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, striking out five over three perfect innings. The Yankees determined that Beck wouldn't require any further rehab outings in the FCL, and he'll now bypass the Single-A level entirely to make his full-season debut in the South Atlantic League.

  • Yankees' Brendan Beck: Makes pro debut in FCL

Beck (elbow) began a rehab assignment Monday with the Yankees' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, striking out five over three perfect innings.

The rehab appearance marked the professional debut of Beck, a 2021 second-round draft pick who underwent Tommy John surgery in September of that year. Beck's first outing went about as well as possible, as he struck out each of the first five batters he faced. The 24-year-old right-hander still resides on Single-A Tampa's 60-day injured list and may make another start or two in the FCL before making his debut in the Florida State League.

  • Yankees' Brendan Beck: Recovering from Tommy John surgery

Beck is recovering well from Tommy John surgery, a procedure he underwent last summer, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.

Beck was selected out of Stanford with the 55th overall pick in July. The surgery explains why he never pitched in a competitive game after joining the Yankees' organization. It's unclear precisely when the procedure took place, but there's a strong chance he misses all of the 2022 season unless he makes a particularly quick recovery.
