Braves' Cal Quantrill: Exits with calf cramps
Quantrill was removed from Saturday's start against the Mets as a precaution due to calf cramps.
Quantrill yielded three runs on five hits and five walks across 4.2 innings before departing his Atlanta debut with calf cramps. He struck out three. The issue shouldn't have any effect on his next start. Quantrill was claimed off waivers from Miami after posting a 5.50 ERA in 24 starts for the Marlins. His five walks tied a season high and the outing marked his fourth straight start not completing five frames. Quantrill is lined up to make his next start in Philadelphia.

Braves' Cal Quantrill: Making team debut Saturday
Quantrill is slated to start Saturday's game against the Mets at Truist Park, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Erick Fedde had been in line to start this weekend, but he ended up getting moved to the bullpen to open up a rotation spot for Quantrill, whom Atlanta claimed off waivers from Miami on Thursday. Before getting cut by the Marlins, Quantrill had endured a disappointing 2025 campaign, posting a 5.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 82:30 K:BB in 109.2 innings. An impending free agent this winter, Quantrill will look to pitch well over the final five weeks of the season with the hope of earning a rotation spot with Atlanta or another club heading into 2026.

Braves' Cal Quantrill: Nabbed on waivers by Atlanta
Atlanta claimed Quantrill off waivers from the Marlins on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Atlanta has decided to take on what remains of Quantrill's $3.5 million salary for 2025, even though the right-hander had posted a 5.50 ERA and 82:30 K:BB over 109.2 innings for the Marlins this season. Manager Brian Snitker has suggested that Atlanta will roll out a six-man rotation once Chris Sale (ribcage) returns from the 60-day injured lsit, and Quantrill could take the spot of Erick Fedde, who has a 7.11 ERA in four starts since joining the team.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Placed on outright waivers
The Marlins placed Quantrill on outright waivers Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Given his $3.5 million salary, Quantrill is a good bet to clear waivers. The Marlins would have the ability to retain him at that point, although it's likelier the veteran right-hander will be cut loose. Quantrill has posted a 5.50 ERA and 82:30 K:BB over 109.2 innings this season and an 11.25 ERA in three starts this month.

While the 30-year-old has given up one earned run or fewer in four of five starts since the All-Star break, he's topped five innings just once in that span. He'll carry a 5.09 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 80:29 K:BB across 106 innings into a road matchup with the Red Sox next weekend.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Tosses five scoreless frames
Quantrill (4-8) earned the win over St. Louis on Wednesday, allowing three hits and issuing two walks while striking out three batters over five scoreless innings.
All three of the hits Quantrill gave up were singles, and he escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in his final inning to emerge with the victory. The performance continued an impressive stretch for the right-hander during which he's allowed just one run over 16 innings across his past three starts. Quantrill is still at a mediocre 4.79 ERA on the campaign, but he's been pretty consistent for almost three months, giving up three or fewer earned runs in 15 of his past 16 outings.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Blanks KC in quality start
Quantrill came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Royals, scattering two hits over six scoreless innings. he struck out three without walking a batter.
The right-hander produced his best performance of the season, retiring the last 10 batters he faced and not letting a runner get into scoring position in his first quality start of the year. Quantrill got denied his first win since May 18 when Ronny Henriquez served up a game-tying homer to Salvador Perez in the eighth inning, however. While Saturday's outing was the first time in 2025 he'd lasted six innings, Quantrill has given up three earned runs or fewer in seven of eight starts since the beginning of June. posting a 4.46 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB over 38.1 innings during that stretch. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come next weekend on the road in Milwaukee.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Struggles persist in eighth loss
Quantrill (3-8) took the loss Thursday against the Reds, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out five.
The six runs were Quantrill's most yielded since April 19, and the seven hits allowed were his most since May 30. The soft-tossing right-hander has yet to last six innings in an outing in 2025, and he's exceeded five strikeouts just five times in 18 appearances. Quantrill will bring a poor 5.62 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 67:24 K:BB over 81.2 frames into the All-Star break, and he'll have little fantasy appeal even as a streaming option in the second half.

Quantrill hasn't pitched horribly during that stretch with a 4.29 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, but he's lasted long enough to qualify for the win in just half of those games. Through 17 starts this season, he has a 5.40 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 62:23 K:BB across 76.2 innings.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Takes no-decision Sunday
Quantrill allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Quantrill had a decent outing, throwing 54 of 87 pitches for strikes, but the Marlins' run support didn't show up until the eighth inning. He has gone seven starts without a win, allowing 16 runs (15 earned) over 32 innings in that span. Quantrill hasn't found much opportunity to pitch deep into games, and that will make wins tough to come by. He's at a 5.42 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 56:22 K:BB through 73 innings over 16 starts. His next outing is projected to be at home versus the Brewers.

Quantrill allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Tuesday.
Quantrill ran into trouble in the fifth inning, and he ended up coming up an out short of the win. He was pulled with the tying run on base, and Anthony Bender got the final out as Rafael Devers was thrown out at the plate on a Heliot Ramos double. Quantrill is no stranger to short outings this season -- this was his seventh start of less than five innings, and he's yet to complete six frames in any of his 15 starts. He's pitched to a poor 5.56 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 51:21 K:BB across 68 innings. The right-hander is projected to make his next start at Arizona this weekend.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Penciled in to start Tuesday
Quantrill (hamstring) is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Giants, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander dealt with a cramp in his left hamstring during his previous start last Tuesday against the Phillies, but it won't affect his availability for the next turn through the rotation. Quantrill hasn't given up more than three earned runs in an appearance since April 30, and he has a 3.93 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 32:9 K:BB across 36.2 innings during that eight-start stretch.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Dealt with hamstring cramp Tuesday
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said that Quantrill dealt with a cramp in his left hamstring during Tuesday's start against the Phillies, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.
Quantrill was seen grabbing at his hamstring after the Marlins recorded the final out in the top of the fourth inning. He came back out for the fifth but was pulled after hitting a batter and giving up a double. Quantrill had thrown only 74 pitches and allowed just one run to that point, although he was charged with an additional two runs after exiting. It's not clear how much the right-hander's cramping factored into McCullough's decision to remove the hurler, but the manager expects Quantrill to be ready to go for his next scheduled outing Tuesday in San Francisco.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Unravels in middle innings
Quantrill came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Phillies, giving up three runs on four hits over four-plus innings. He struck out two without walking a batter.
The right-hander retired the first nine batters he faced, but things began to fall apart for Quantrill when he served up a solo shot to Trea Turner to lead off the fourth inning. After plunking Otto Kemp with a pitch and giving up a loud double to Brandon Marsh lead off the fifth, Quantrill got the hook after 74 pitches (42 strikes). He had yet to last more than five innings in a start this season, but the 30-year-old has been relatively effective since the beginning of May, allowing three earned runs or fewer in eight straight outings while posting a 3.93 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 32:9 K:BB in 36.2 innings. Quantrill will look for his first win since May 18 in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Francisco.

Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Fans six in loss to Bucs
Quantrill (3-7) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks over five innings as the Marlins were downed 5-2 by the Pirates. He struck out six.
It's the first time since April 30 that the right-hander has been tagged for more than three runs. Quantrill has found a few more whiffs lately, recording at least six strikeouts in four of his last seven trips to the mound while posting a 3.58 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB in 32.2 innings over that span. With Ryan Weathers (lat) back on the 60-day IL, Quantrill's rotation spot seems secure heading into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Phillies.
